If I let you know I'm here for you, maybe you'll love yourself like I love you.
He didn't think she meant to, but she had fallen asleep on his shoulder shortly after her mouth uttered those two words. He didn't blame her, of course, for falling asleep. If he could be sleeping right now, he would. But sleep was impossible. His mind was too awake. It was filled with everything she had said and done. From her asshole of a father to the way she was staring up at the stars when he first arrived at the park and to what she thought about herself.
And that's what got his head spinning the most.
He didn't understand how she could possibly believe any of the thoughts inside her head.
It just didn't make sense.
His eyes glanced over to her face and he frowned slightly. Her beauty was obvious. Even a blind man could see she was gorgeous, lovely, perfect. And she didn't have to try to be. She just was. Like the stars in the sky, she shined naturally.
His leg started falling asleep, sending streaks of pain up and down the lower half of his body. He tried to move without waking her, but he failed.
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she saw where she was and blushed profusely. "Ohmygod, I didn't mean to fall asleep on you. I'm sorry."
He shrugged. He was kind of used to it, people using him for things. "It's okay."
"Are you sure? I mean, we were talking and all and I don--"
He cut her rambling off with a light laugh. A laugh that she was certain was the best sound she had ever heard. "Hey, it's alright. I didn't mind."
She yawned and nodded a little. She was used to apologizing for everything over and over again, but for some reason, she didn't feel the need to with him.
Turning away, she noticed the sky had lightened from a deep black to a deep gray.
The stars were going to disappear soon. They always did, when the sun came. But for once, she wasn't sad. Because a star was sitting right next to her and there was nothing the sun could do to outshine that beautiful boy.
"The sun's rising."
He smiled. "It sure is."
He had never really found anything spectacular in watching the sun rise. To him, it was just another beginning of another shitty day. But in that moment, sitting in the park with her, a girl he didn't even know the name of, he began to understand why people were so enamored with sunrises.
They were fresh starts, new promises, clear beginnings. And he knew he'd be lying to himself if he said he didn't feel like this sunrise was the start of a beginning with her.
***
this was super short, sorry.
fun fact: the bit about how she fell asleep on his shoulder is actually the very first part of this story i wrote.
do you guys want them to learn each other's names? because i do. they've gone like six hours without asking, which is weird.
i probably won't update again until sunday or monday, just so you know.
one chapter left.
(this makes me slightly sad. but i could maybe keep it going if enough people wanted me to. i mean, i have a few more ideas for them.)
