Jungkook POV
I woke up early in the morning, like really early, it was barely even four. Once again my night was nightmare free but instead I had a dream of never-ending running and calling out Taehyung's name.
I turned on my phone and it was still on the info the woman sent me from the night before. I just dismissed it, it's hours before the agency officially opens so I couldn't go in yet even if I wanted to.
I couldn't do anything but sit and worry about whether or not Taehyung was the one I was to be questioned about. He still hasn't even seen my text yet and that's the part that fuels my worries the most.
I tried listening to music, I tried watching watching anime, and I even tried scrolling through Instagram, but no matter what I tried I couldn't keep my mind off him.
The second the clock hit eight I ran out of the house. I was tired of waiting, breaking down with each second that passed.
As I walked through the door I was approached by an intimidating man, "can I help you" he said in as soft a voice he could manage, which was still loud and rough.
"I'm looking for Avaria," I said low and his eyes almost popped out. "Hey" a girl said popping out from behind the big man. She had short blond hair, big brown eyes and an endearing smile on her face. She looked far too young to be a detective.
As she introduced herself I just stared stunned, she was much more bubbly than she was over the phone. "You must be Jungkook" she said extending her hand towards me, "yea" I said as I grabbed her hand.
I stumbled a bit surprised when Avaria started to pull me along instead of shaking my hand like I thought she was going to. I regained my balanced and wanted to pull my hand back but I figured I shouldn't unless I wanted to explain why.
She led me to an empty room and I sat in the chair she directed me to. The atmosphere of the room made me nervous even when I had no reason to be.
She sat across from me and set down a cup and clip board. "Would you like some coffee" she said as she looked at me intently. I'm sure I had big bags underneath my eyes, I was exhausted. I answered back "no thank you," she just shifted into a more comfortable position before flipping through the papers.
I was twirling my fingers over one another and looking around the silent interrogation room when Avaria slid a paper over to me. It was a picture of Taehyung.
"I'll take it you know him" she said as she gauged my reaction, I just nodded slightly as I bit my lip, it was like my worst nightmare come true, I was here for Taehyung.
"This is him now" she said sliding a second picture over to me. I was sick to my stomach the second I saw the picture and I could feel tears welling up inside me. I bit my lip harshly causing me to bleed a bit.
Avaria watched from the other side of the table emotionless. I dug my finger into the palm of my other hand, "if I answer your questions can you take me to him" I said my voice quivering.
"If I deem you innocent I shall take you to see him myself, if not.. well let's just say you and me with be hanging out a lot." As the last words left her mouth I looked up, her no longer endearing smile, cold tone and dead eyes, were a harsh reminder that I was being interrogated.
She asked a couple of questions about where I was the night before, and my relation to Taehyung, but nothing big.
Avaria picked up a bag that was leaning against the table leg. As I looked closer I recognized what was sitting in the evidence bag. "My umbrella" I said loudly, from her face I figured she was expecting me to deny that it was mine.
The dark navy blue umbrella although plain was something I prized, it was from a day out with my mom when it suddenly started raining, one of our last days out together. It was many years old but you could hardly tell.
"This was found very near the crime scene" she said sliding the bag back off the table. "So does that mean that you were there" she said her voice full if confidence, as if she knew that I was guilty.
It took me about an hour of unsuccessfully trying to convince her otherwise before I told her about my past and how Taehyung just being there helps me. I was a bit surprised by how effective it was, she almost dropped all suspicion of me. She had figured something out about me that not even I knew, and that convinced her.
Avaria asked me a couple more questions before her face brightened up a bit, "let's go" she said jumping up off her chair.
Her sudden changes left me wondering how her personality could change so much in a matter of seconds, and if part if it was just an act.
As we walked through the precinct a couple of people looked at us. I just stared at the ground watching my feet as we walked out the door, telling no one where we were going.
The car ride to the hospital was silent and filled with awkwardness. At one point I looked over to Avaria feeling her eyes on me. She looked away the second I met her eyes, her face full of sadness.
Neither of us talked to each other as she took me to see him, bypassing the nurse telling us "visitors weren't allowed."
Avaria leaned against the wall to his room and motioned for me to go inside. I did.
His curtains were closed and heavy breathing and the slow beep of machines were all that could be heard. I took a deep breath bracing myself before opening the curtains just a bit.
I looked him up and down before my face sunk to my knees. The blood in the picture I had seen hid so many more wounds, he was in worse condition than I could have ever imagined.
Tears streamed down my face but I held back my voice, it hurt my throat but I didn't want to be heard crying, after all I was the one that asked to come. I had to act strong.
After a bit the tears stopped flowing, I couldn't cry anymore. I stood back up and stared at every inch of his body. I want to hug him, to comfort him like he comforted me but I know that any and every little touch would be excruciatingly painful.
I jumped as a knock sounded throughout the room and the sound of a door sliding open rung. I could her two sets of footsteps approaching and turned my attention to the end of the bed where they stopped.
Avaria and an unknown doctor stood looking at me. "We gotta go the doctor has to give him medicine" Avaria said with a solemn tone to her voice.
"Usually we don't let anyone but family visit when the patient is in a comma but Avaria here explained everything." "I'm sorry but could I ask you to leave now."
My mind stopped processing after the word comma left his mouth, I walked out the door and Avaria rushed after me after telling the doctor sorry.
She tried talking to me but I couldn't understand a word she said. I mindlessly sat as she drove me home. I wished it was all a nightmare but the pain I felt from digging my fingers into my arm told me it was real.
"Thank you for taking me" I said to Avaria not even looking her in the eyes. I unbuckled before getting out and slowly walking up to and entering my house.
