The floors were made of granite, but they felt like ice. Thin ice.
Sydney flashed her smile as we discussed her promotion. When I had met her, she was an assistant to royal investigators. Now she was a lead. It was impressive, to say the least.
But I wasn't in the mood to be impressed.
"You haven't changed a bit." she said as we walked. "Still as handsome as you ever were."
"That's insulting, Sydney." I replied. "We both know I've only gotten better."
Her eyes raked over me. "Well. Maybe."
Her lip curled to the side. I used to think that lip curl was the sexiest thing I'd ever seen. It was exciting. It was enticing.
It was the best way to get out of an arranged marriage I didn't want.
Now, it was just a lip curl.
Sehun must have found out about that night. That was the only explanation. He was far too proud of himself for it to be a coincidence. But I couldn't have Sydney answering to him. She had to answer to me if I was going to win this.
"Shall we continue this meeting in private?" I asked.
She raised an eyebrow at me.
I leaned in towards her. "If there's a leak, I don't trust discussing these things out in the open."
Or anywhere near Sehun.
She nodded. "Fair enough."
I escorted her to one of the more secluded parlor rooms, usually saved for entertaining my father's honored guests.
I turned to one of the guards. "Make sure no one disturbs us." I said.
He nodded. When I turned my head to close the door, my breath caught my throat.
Y/N.
She looked at me, then at the door. Her eyes narrowed slightly as her head dipped down, and she began to walk away.
I took a step forward to go after her.
"Jimin?" Sydney's voice said from behind me. "Are you just going to stand in the doorway?"
I looked back to her, then to Y/N. She was almost out of sight anyways. I'd have to explain myself later.
Wait, why did I have to explain myself? Didn't she want to go to Jungkook anyways?
Whatever.
I shut the door and turned back to Sydney, giving my best smile. She sat on the couch, crossing her long legs and smiling back.
Steady.
"I have to say, Sydney, I'm surprised Sehun was able to look you up after all this time."
"It hasn't been that long." she replied. "It feels like just yesterday that your wedding was announced."
I swallowed.
"How does it feel to be married?" she asked.
I shrugged. "Just like I imagined."
