Ch 36 - Jimin POV - King and Country

"I was hired to find a mole," Sydney said. "Not deal with your political problems."

This had to be my least favorite meeting of all time. Half of the capital city was on fire, and I was surrounded by a few of my least favorite people. Martin kept glaring at me, Sehun kept subtly mocking me, and Sydney was giving me a lot of attitude I wasn't in the mood for.

"Don't worry," I said. "I won't give you two jobs. You haven't even done the first one yet."

Her fist gripped around her pen.

"The mole is another matter," Father said. "You can't address that now, Jimin, but you will have to address your people."

"That would require him to be serious," Sehun chimed in.

I thought of the bullet wound in Y/N's side. I reached for her hand next to mine, gripping her fingers tight.

"I am serious." I said.

Sehun rolled his eyes. "Then what's your next move, oh great and powerful king?"

I smirked. "You should call me that more often." I thought about my options for a moment. "It seems that rumors have created these riots. I haven't made any media appearances since the crowning. The public has been free to make up stories about what goes on inside these walls."

I saw Y/N's head drop in the corner of my eye. I knew she still felt guilty about Jungkook. I still had mixed feelings about it myself. But he didn't matter right now.

"I say we set the record straight," I continued.

"Do you really think media appearances will do any good?" Sehun asked. My father's head was slanted to the side, just as skeptical.

"It's not going to solve the issue completely, but it's a step in the right direction. Our family hasn't made many appearances in public in quite some time, and it's allowed for questions that are only answered by rumors."

"And the rioters themselves?" Father asked.

"They have the right to protest. I won't' take away their rights. But if they harm others because of those protests, I want them arrested."

He nodded thoughtfully. "Not what I expected, but not bad."

"If it were me," Sehun said, "I would put military around the city to discourage any further rioting. It's a danger to the citizens. You're worried about your own reputation more than the people?"

A growl came from my chest. "If it were you, Sehun..."

Y/N squeezed my hand. I wanted to finish my sentence, but I suddenly felt like I was unable to. The pastor's words echoed in my head.

There are good people around you, too. Lean on them. Even if you don't like them, you need them now.

I coughed. It was going to be difficult to get this next sentence out.
