chapter nine; hurricane

i felt bad for venus, thinking about her situation. she seemed unhappy about jax, and it was written all over her face as the sleeve from her silk robe was fallen off her shoulder.

i stepped closer to venus, her frame small as i pulled up on the robe, draping it over her shoulder.

"are you sure we shouldn't just leave?" i suggested.

"it's too soon, mars." venus shook her head.

"how venus? he's just going to get worse, and what other options do we have? are just going to wait until our parents die while we'll both have children and be old, because i rather be with you now rather than twenty or thirty years from now." i scrunched my brows together as she sat down on her bed, opening the drawer to her nightstand as she took out a pack of marlboro's.

"it's too soon mars. just wait a couple of weeks when we plan for a ride, our expenses, and our careers. if we leave, we're automatically broke." i took out a cigarette of my own, flicking down on the lighter a couple of times before a flame flickered.

"so, we're really going to go at one point?" I spun the chair around from the computer as i took a seat, leaning my left elbow against my thigh.

"yeah, but we have to plan. i don't plan on dying so soon." venus laughs, taking a long drag and flicking the ashes into the ashtray.

i look outside, noticing that the windowpane had light drips of water, outside it was now drizzling. i looked back at venus, admiring her for a moment. her eyes looked half shut, like she was about to fall asleep.

"i should start going before it gets worse." i smothered the half lit cigarette in the ashtray, fixing the sleeves of my shirt as i walked over to the balcony door.

"why don't you just stay?" venus suggested.

i contemplated whether or not to stay or leave before i let out a sigh and took a step away from the door.

"it's risky. look, i'll try to see you tomorrow, alright? just, let me know when we can leave."

she purses her lips for a second as she looked at the floor.

"just stay for a little longer." venus pleaded.

i thought about it for a moment before agreeing. i didn't plan on staying for the whole night, considering that someone could somehow unlock the door, and that my absence at home would be noticed.

"just for a couple of minutes." i looked down at my shoes, taking them off one by one.

by the time i reaches the bed, venus has turned off the light, the moon's rays poured into the room as she scooted to the middle of the bed.

i held her in my arms as we both lied down. as if it was my instincts, i ran my fingers through her hair as she began to drift off to sleep.
