chapter seventeen; colors pt II

i couldn't believe that venus was permanently gone.

she never ended up calling me, and i made me frustrated.

i wanted to leave this place, but i didn't know where she was so there wasn't much else to do.

titus was still mourning kala. they had some relations before venus and they didn't say anything, but i didn't blame them.

i've never really lost anyone close to me, except julius. but someone like my own parents or relative, that's never happened.

venus, well she had endured that pain. her cousin died and shortly after her best friend died in front of her. i didn't know if she had killed kala, but i felt as though she didn't and that they created it for the press to write about in their tabloids. it was fucking sick.

i couldn't pay attention to the conversation in front of me as it was my parents. they had spoken about all of the events leading up to now, and it was ironic that they didn't know i was stuck in that problem.

"tom, what do you think they're going to do? their daughter astray, who'll take over the throne?" my mother shook her head, a cigarette between her index and middle finger as she took a long drag. our whole family would get lung cancer at some point.

"they don't have anyone to take over, so they'll have to find a distant relative. i knew angelo would, but he's dead. i don't know salvatore's next move." my father began to scribble something down as the smell of tobacco only grew stronger. i was tempted to pull out a cigarette, but i refrained myself.

"what if their daughter comes back?" i spoke up before shoveling some food in my mouth. the air felt tense as i looked between my parents.

"well, they'll capture her and prosecute her for killing our men and that other girl." my father continued to finish his dinner as my mother gave me a look.

"she didn't want to marry jax contos."

i paused my chewing as i shrugged at her. "she didn't volunteer to marry him."

"mars, no one can choose who they marry. that girl should've accepted it and move on with her life. there was no reason to flee. i don't agree with the cadalora family since we've competed with them for such a long time, but she would of had a marvelous wedding. jax is a wonderful young man." my mother explained as i curled my hands for a brief moment.

"i don't believe that people should be making arranges marriages. this is a new century." my father set down his knife and fork as i now had the floor.

"the men in the world choose their woman, that's how it is, mars." his voice was low as i pinched the bridge of my nose.

"only the wealthy do that. my friends will be married to the girl they've known for years while people like me, or v- that cadalora girl will have to be with a stranger till death do's us part." i took a deep breath as i looked down at my plate. i had to calm down before something bad'll happen.
