ACT iv

chapter thirty one; i walk the line

i couldn't explain it, but i had woken up in a church. somehow, i had passed out in the bunker, but managed to wake up in a different place.

the flowers that were scattered around soon made me realize that the city thought i was dead.

i had also realized that trey was dead.

"—and i wish we had more time together. i'm so sorry." i didn't notice what was in her hand at first, but it was venus. a smile came to my face to see that she was fine, but i had quickly assumed that it was but it was quick that she had downed down some sort of medicine.

i had gripped her arm as she looked over, the smile on my face fading as her ocean blue eyes connected with mine, the same eyes i had fallen in love with.

"no venus, what'd you do." i knew what she did, but she fell back on the bed as i sat up.

"i— i thought you were dead." she uttered, her eyes struggled to stay open, but i was already loosing her.

"why'd you do it?" i pleaded as she looked over the empty bottle before dropping it on the floor.

"i couldn't be here without you." she pressed her hand against my cheek.

i couldn't watch her die as i began to figure out ways i could keep her alive.

"no, no, no." i muttered, my eyes darting around for something to save her with.

"may we meet once more, mars solano. i love you." she lifted her head a bit as i cradled her face as i pressed my lips against hers, and it was hard to believe that this would be the last we'd kiss.

"i love you so much, venus cadalora." i hummed in her ear before looking back at her now lifeless eyes. a single tear rolled down her face as i let out a shaky breath. it was all too much to handle.

the hot tears rolled down my face as i closed her eyes shut.

a strangled yell escaped my lips as i hoped for her to come back to life, that there was something we could do to get her back, but there wasn't.

••

it was maybe a couple weeks after being with venus, but i had decided to take her out to see the stars. again.

"i can't believe you're dragging me off somewhere secluded." venus laughed a she glanced over to me.

the car revved a little while i turned down one of the backroads.

"is this the part where i say, 'are you taking me out here to murder me?'" venus couldn't contain her giggles as i smiled.

"definitely."

"alright, are you taking me out here to murder me?" we both laughed as i went to park the car.
