// Brendon saw another boy at the playground and wondered why no one wanted to play with him. //
"Mama? Who's that boy? Why is he so lonely?" Brendon tugged his mother's dress and looked at her with curious eyes. She looked down at him with a smile.
"Which boy, Brenny?" Brendon pointed the boy sitting on the swings by himself, head down.
"That one!"
"Oh," his mother's voice changed into a cold one. "We don't talk about him, Bren."
"W-why? Did he do something was wrong?" Brendon was sincerely curious and had a sudden urge to play with him.
"We can talk about that some other day, honey. C'mon, we have to go home, Papa is waiting for us!" His mother dragged his seven-year old weight just by one hand. While Brendon was getting ushered by his mother, his eyes didn't leave the lonely boy.
Before he had left the playground, the boy on the swing looked up, directly at Brendon. Brendon was caught in the entrancing blue that was held in the boy's eyes. The little boy had never seen eyes like those before. It was like the shimmering ocean or maybe a shiny, blue marble to Brendon. Everyone Brendon knew had green or darker eye colors and never in his seven years has he seen someone with contrasting color.
Blue. A color that he'd always remember.

The next day had rolled around by then, his mother and father had to work in the mornings, leaving Brendon and his four siblings home alone. He was the youngest out of them all, this meant that extra care was enforced for him. However, Brendon didn't like being treated like a baby. He was a seven-year old boy and people needed to start treating him like one!
Today was quite the same to others. Brendon's sibling was in their own worlds, minding their own business unless someone needed attention, they wouldn't care about anything. That's when Brendon had the idea to see the lonesome boy again. Surely, the other would be there since who doesn't love the playground.
Of course, no one had noticed Brendon sneaking out from the backyard door. He was known by friends and family that he can be sneaky. The playground wasn't far from his home, so, his siblings wouldn't have to worry much. He skipped toward the playground and just had to only cross one street. In which, he did successfully.
As he was getting closer to the playground, he squinted his eyes, hoping to spot the other boy. The boy Brendon saw yesterday had to be there since it was Thanksgiving break for public schools and what kid wouldn't want to go to the playground! Fortunately, Brendon saw the boy at the same place, on the swings alone.
The darker haired boy took a deep breath and walked toward the brown-haired boy. Brendon could feel the other kids' eyes on him and it was lowering his confidence a little bit. He stayed strong and continued to walk.
"H-hey!" Brendon waves his small hand in front of the unknown kid and smiled. Mother always taught him to smile at someone when you introduce yourself. It's manners or something like that as Brendon remembered.
The other kid looked up and Brendon felt himself freeze on that stare. Not that it was scary or frightening, it was because the color of his eyes were so striking.
"Why are you talking to...me?" Brendon heard the confusion in his voice as if he hated himself too.
"Y-you seemed lonely! And I thought you needed a f-friend!" Brendon attempted to lighten the mood but nothing worked since the blue-eyed boy kept bringing himself down.
"No one wants to be friends with me." He responded in a cold voice like Brendon's mother yesterday.
"I-I wanna be friends with you! Here, my name is, um, Brendon, what about you?" Brendon took the swing next to kid and looked at him.
"Dallon." He answered, not looking directly at Brendon anymore.
"That's such a unique name! I like it." Brendon hoped that the compliments made Dallon feel better.
"Thanks, uh, um, Brendon." Then they stopped talked as Brendon had nothing left to say or ask. He decided to turn his view on the ground where Dallon had been staring.
Then a question hit him.
"D-Dallon, why doesn't anyone want to hang out with you?" Brendon was scared to ask this question because people seem to fear him like he's a wild creature. Honestly, there was some guilt beginning to flow into the seven-year old's body. He felt stupid for asking it.
"People say my parents are bad people. Or I'm a-a monster." His voice was quiet now and didn't have that edge anymore.
"B-but there's nothing wrong with you! You l-look and act like a normal boy! Y-you don't have sharp teeth o-or big claws!" Brendon tried his hardest to make Dallon understand.
"I guess you're right..." Dallon turned toward Brendon and there was a small smile on his face. Brendon smiled back and felt content with his work.
"Do you wanna come over for Thanksgiving tomorrow? Or do you have to ask your parents? Where are your parents anyway?" Brendon asked while rocking the swing a little.
"I'm waiting for them still. They promised they would be back and they would be here at the playground! But they haven't come back for me yet not even my b-brother or si-sister." Dallon sounded sadder than before and he sounded like he was going to cry.
"D-don't cry, Dallon! Your parents are gonna come back, I promise!" Brendon stood up and gave him a hug, despite Dallon being taller than him. Dallon wrapped his hands around Brendon and dried his eyes out on his shoulders. The eyes of the other kids turned into care from hatred. With Brendon's actions, the kids didn't isolate Dallon or avoid him after this day.
"C'mon, Dallon, let's go back to my house! I've got some really cool cars and dragons!" Brendon announced, grabbing Dallon's hand and trying to usher him toward his house.
"Okay, okay, I'm getting up!" Dallon giggles and let Brendon drag him off the playground area.
As they walk back to Brendon's house and prove that Dallon's just a normal boy, they're holding their small hands together with a smile on each other's faces.
