// Brendon didn't have a present for Dallon during the holiday season. //

He spent the whole day looking for the perfect present for his boyfriend. Brendon knew Dallon wasn't much of a drinker, so, special alcohol bundles was a no go. Dallon was into visual art and Brendon was ready to get him a drawing tablet or some really nice supplies but his budget didn't agree with any of those. The younger man was cornered by his harsh thinking and the limited amount of money he had.

Brendon went to the finest places where gourmet foods were sold. Items such as, cheese and meat assortments, hot chocolate or just chocolate bundles, basically, any kind of food that could be puffed up pretty nicely. He ended up not buying of those since he started thinking if Dallon would like them or even eat them in the future.

He then went to Dallon's favorite clothing stores and tried to pick out some clothes he would enjoy. Sweaters, jeans, and jackets; whatever. Either most of them didn't make Brendon's testing or simply too expensive. After all, working as a host at a beat down diner didn't give him too much to work. Add that with Brendon's slight addiction to alcohol and you have some troubles.

All he had in his hand was plastic bag was a  box of kind of cheap assorted chocolates. Brendon sat in his car, outside of a grocery store, and looked at the time. It had been four hours and he didn't come up with anything for his boyfriend, who always done so much for him on his birthday or any holiday.

Brendon sighed and decided to start driving home with utter disappointment running throughout his whole body. The drive back home wasn't help him calm down not even the Christmas music on the radio.

Every minute had him scared; he wasn't ready to see that disappointment in Dallon's face. Brendon had to just toughen up and face the facts. It was his fault to wait so long to go gift shopping, anyways.

When he made it home, he opened the front door slowly and softly, to ensure that none of their dogs would bark. Yet, they still heard him and swarmed him downstairs. Brendon knew Dallon wasn't feeling too great since he caught a cold, oh, great, another reason to add that would make Dallon had some negative expression toward Brendon.

Firstly, he brought down the groceries and stored them away in the kitchen and the pantries. He slipped his jacket off and kicked his shoes off. Now for the tough part, he took a breath and swallowed the lump in his throat. He went up the stairs and clutched the box of chocolates.

The door was slightly closed and Brendon wanted to open it for himself but the dogs pawed their way through, leaving no time for Brendon to reassure himself before confronting the love of his life.

Stepping into the room, the lights were dimmed down and Brendon found Dallon cozied up in a few, new throws that friends had gave him. The one in bed opened his eyes slowly and smiled when he saw Brendon. He gave him a wave and gingerly sat up against the frame.

"Hey, Dal," Brendon sat on the floor by the bed, looking at Dallon's eyes, "How are you feeling?"

Ever since chronic laryngitis stuck Dallon two years back and the both of them couldn't support any more medications for it, Dallon and Brendon learned sign language to still be able to communicate.

Dallon signed out, "I'm feeling a little rusty, but I'm sure I'll get better!"

Brendon smiled, "I'm happy that you feel that way," but the smile didn't last long, "I...went out looking gifts for you. I know I'm such a procrastinator and I really paid the price tonight."

Brendon pulled out the box of chocolates and handed it to Dallon, attempting to make little eye contact as possible.

Dallon took it and laid it on his lap, smiling at the box.

"I-I know it isn't much and I just feel like I could have done better if I had...spent less money on drinks and myself. I'm sorry, Dallon," Brendon spoke, his head down and his hands into fists.

"I'm so careless," he sighed and tried to hold back the tears that formed because of the anger in himself, "I-I...I sometimes feel like you'd have such a better life if you didn't stay...s-stay with me."

The sickness that dwelled inside Dallon made it hard for Brendon to come to terms with himself. If Brendon was a hard worker, he could have a better job and support the two of them better. If Brendon was more thoughtful, he could have warned Dallon so much more to take caution with singing everyday for shows. If this and if that; it was all his fault that Dallon couldn't utter a word or do what he loved anymore. These negative thoughts engulfed him at the moment. Brendon absolute hated himself-

The thoughts cleared up once he felt Dallon tap his shoulder like the clouds shifting away from the sun on a rainy day. Brendon just then felt the tears run down his cheeks and saw Dallon's comforting smile on his face.

"Don't cry, Brendon. You did your best and I love your gift so much. I wasn't expecting anything for Christmas from you. Not because that I think you're unthoughtful or anything. I think you're the gift I have all year long and on Christmas; it's even more special because I get to spend this day with you, my lovely," Dallon signed and scooted over to make space for Brendon, patting on the bed as a signal.

Brendon tried to hide the smile coming on his face as he got up from the ground and cuddled right next to his ridiculously tall lover. He hid his face in Dallon's throat; a place crawling with illness but for a moment, Brendon didn't think about that cruel thing that took his boyfriend's beautiful voice instead, as a place of comfort.

"I love you a lot, Dallon. Thank you for always being here for me," Brendon thanked for the comfort.

"I'm always here for you, baby," Brendon heard nothing and saw the other's hands signed the phrase, however, he could always hear that phrase in his head. It was like a audio memory that had been engraved in his head. Brendon would do anything to hear Dallon's voice once more; just for a minute. To hear him say the words "I love you," again would be enough for him.

The two slept there soon enough, with their dogs curled around them and a record playing in the background, one of Brendon's favorite songs.

"Aeroplanes in the sky...bring her back to me,"
