Halloween was finally here, and Evelyn was actually excited to see how Hogwarts celebrated Halloween in 1942. Did they have a big feast, or no? Evelyn sat down on the couch waiting for Tom, Avery, and Lestrange to come out of their dorm.

About a half and hour before breakfast, the boys sauntered out their door and were chatting loudly. Evelyn rolled her eyes at how inconsiderate they were. People were still still sleeping. Then again, they were them.

"Good morning Ev." Lestrange said.

"Good morning boys, Happy Halloween." Evelyn said.

"Happy Halloween." They said in turn.

"Shall we go to breakfast before class starts?" Evelyn asked. Tom smiled.

"No classes today. Since its Halloween the fifth years and up get to have a masquerade party tonight. I forgot you didn't know." Tom said taking a seat next to Evelyn.

"Oh really? That should be exciting." Evelyn said. Tom smiled and looked to Lestrange and Avery who grinned. Something told Evelyn that something was going to happen. But what?

"Queenie?" Evelyn asked sitting next to the popular Queenie Natalia in the Library. The girl looked up with a raised eyebrow.

"I heard there is a masquerade party tonight, and I was wondering if you wanted to pick out a dress and mask for it." Evelyn asked. Queenie smiled, "Darling, if it's clothes, I'll be there." She said. Evelyn stood up,

"Great!" The two girls gathered up their things and headed to the front of the school. They were going to Hogsmeade.

This was not what Evelyn had expected Hogsmeade to look like. To say the least, it looked... New. All the buildings seemed like they were recently built. The Hog's Head was perfectly clean and not old and run down. Evelyn wondered if the Three Broomstick's was even built yet! Queenie dragged Evelyn to a dress shop and started browsing. Queenie found a dress that was black and very tight until her knees where it poofed out. She was very easy to find a dress for.

Evelyn on the other hand, couldn't seem to find one that fit her. Not size, she found enough that fit her physically. Mentally, she wanted one that showed her true self. Kind and beautiful. Queenie kept trying to make Evelyn get ones that revealed to much skin. It felt like she was there for hours until she walked past a pale pink dress. She paused and went back to look at it. The top was laced, and the skirt was flowing and long. A cream pink mask was on display above. This was the one. Queenie had her try it on and exclaimed happily that it truly was the one for tonight. She did warn Evelyn that there were future dances for only seventh years.

"Come on Darling, we only have a few hours before the dance. Let's go." Queenie said. Evelyn smiled and took her newly bought dress, and the two made their way back to the Castle.

She sat with Tom alone in the Astronomy tower. He leaned his arms on the railing and looked out at the Black Lake. The sun was setting and pink and orange peaked the sky.

"Tom?" Evelyn asked. He looked over and asked,

"Yes Evelyn?"

Evelyn actually didn't know what to say. What was she going to say?!

"I. Um. Am... Kind of nervous for tonight." Evelyn spouted. What? No! Stupid! You sound stupid! Nervous? Ha! Tom smiled,

"Have you never gone to a dance before?" He asked.

"No. Homeschool remember." She lied.

"Well there's nothing to be nervous about, it's not anything special. The special dance is in Seventh year." Tom said.

"Thank you." Evelyn said. Hopefully she didn't sound as stupid as she thought.

"You're welcome." Tom said looking Evelyn in the eye. Evelyn couldn't help but stare back. His dark stormy grey eyes. They held so many secrets. They were mysterious. Evelyn blushed and looked down at her feet. What was she doing? He was Voldemort. Not now, a voice said in the back of Evelyn's head. Evelyn turned her attention considering else.

"Oh! I better get going. Queenie will kill me if I am not on time for getting ready." Evelyn said.

"Yes." Tom said. Evelyn said goodbye and headed downstairs, leaving Tom leaning on the railing once more.

Evelyn and Queenie actually got ready pretty fast. Evelyn only had to wave her wand and her makeup appeared, and her hair was in a fancy updo. Queenie had her black hair in a tight bun on top, and had put on pale lipstick and thick black eyeliner to make her eyes stand out. Queenie was a really fun person to hang out with, once you get past the rich snob personality.

"Are we ready?" Evelyn dared to ask.

"Yes!" Queenie exclaimed as she put the finishing touches on her makeup. The two girls slid on their masks and walked out of their dorms. They were surprised to see the boys all in the main common room area talking amongst themselves. Avery had a girl attached to his hip in a dark green dress. Her name was Izabella Feran. A Slytherin.

Lestrange and Tom had no one, and Evelyn didn't know whether to feel excited or not. Queenie smiled and linked arms with Lestrange. Evelyn looked to Tom who had his arm extended as well. His mask was a navy blue with a silver accent. The blue set his eyes perfectly. Evelyn took Tom's arm and he led her out of the common room. Evelyn was feeling exhilarated as she walked to the Great Hall, and she was more astonished at the decorations.

The Great Hall had been decorated in an elegant haunted mansion style. Candles lit the room along the walls on tall posts. The ceiling was dimmed a bit to set the creepy feeling, yet it was enchanting. She looked back to Tom who hand extended his hand. Evelyn took it and Tom spun her around. He ended the spin with a dip and Evelyn gasped, she had no idea he could dance. He brought Evelyn back up and Evelyn walked out away. Then Tom wrapped her in and grabbed her hand, then let go letting Evelyn spin the other way. He did a couple more dance moves before settling into a waltz with Evelyn.

"I had no idea that you could dance!" Evelyn smiled. Tom smiled back, "I picked it up at one point." He said. Evelyn laughed and continued to dance.

They danced for another hour and soon the midnight bell rung. Tom let go of her hand. His eyes sparkling through his mask.

"If you will excuse me, I should probably retire for the night. I'm rather tired." Tom said.

"Alright, thank you for dancing with me." Evelyn said.

"It was my pleasure." Tom whispered. He leaned in and gave a small kiss on Evelyn's forehead and disappeared into the crowd. Evelyn smiled softly and wandered to find Queenie.

She found the girl sitting on a chair grinning happily. Evelyn wondered if she ate something funny.

"Lestrange is so handsome!" She exclaimed. Evelyn sat down next to the love stricken girl.

"You seemed like you had fun!" Evelyn said grinning too.

"Yes I did!! And you!! I could tell you were having the time of your life!" Queenie said throwing her arms out.

"Yes. I guess I did." Evelyn said.

The two girls danced with other Slytherin girls until it was about 1:30. Evelyn had enough dancing. She grabbed Queenie's wrist and pulled her out of the Great Hall. The two giggled and exchanged stories as they walked. The rounded a corner and stopped dead in their footsteps. Evelyn couldn't move, and it seemed like she couldn't breath.

"Oh no." Evelyn whispered.

It's happening. On the floor in front of them was a girl in their year, a fifth year Ravenclaw. Next to her was a broken pocket mirror and discarded lipstick. The girl was Halen Delancy. Her eyes were wide open and her mouth was too. She was stiff and in moving. Her face pale. She had been petrified.
