Evelyn was walking the grounds looking around in early June. Yes, she had seen many differences, but it was still exhilarating to see the castle. She was actually going to miss the school over the summer. Evelyn felt a pang of homesickness. She loved her sister dearly, and she knew Hermione loved her. But she was an outcast at Hogwarts.
She was the Hufflepuff that had no friends and was shadowed by her brilliant sister. Evelyn had went through four years of teachers expecting that she was as smart as her sister, Slytherin's teasing her, being alone. The one teacher that seemed to understand her was Professor Snape.
Evelyn pulled herself out of her thoughts at the sound of laughter. Evelyn glanced around and found a group of girls towering over a Ravenclaw. It was Olive Hornby and her snobby group of friends laughing at pointing at poor Myrtle Warren. Myrtle wiped away tears that fell below her glasses.
"Ha! Those glasses are only good because they hide your ugly face!" Olive laughed.
Her friends echoed her laugh and poor Myrtle shrunk. Evelyn's blood boiled. No one should be treated like that!
"Hey!" Evelyn yelled marching over. The girls turned to face Evelyn. Sudden scared looks on their faces as a Slytherin stalked towards them. Myrtle peeked from behind her hands, at who stopped the bullies.
"What makes it ok to tease someone? What makes it alright to make them feel worthless when they're not?" Evelyn said feeling anger bubble. Olive looked at Evelyn and walked away, her 'friends' following. Evelyn glared at them, then turned to Myrtle.
"Are you alright?" She asked. Myrtle sniffed and looked up.
"Thank you, but may I ask why a Slytherin helped me. Aren't you in Riddle's gang?" Myrtle asked. Ouch, Slytherins were really prejudiced.
"Not all Slytherin's are bad. Take me for example. I can't stand bullies. And yes, Tom may be a bit... um rude... but he's my friend..." Evelyn trailed off at the word friend.
Is he? Evelyn brought her thoughts back to Myrtle. If she could prevent Myrtle from going into the bathroom, Myrtle won't die.
"Well I should go, I have class. And again, thank you." Myrtle said walking away. Evelyn smiled, she just saved Myrtle Elizabeth Warren.
Evelyn happily took a few rolls and set them on her plate, feeling content of what she did today. She was currently in the Great Hall eating lunch, the Slytherin banner waving above her."Why are you so happy?" Lestrange asked.
"Yeah! What's that on your face? It almost looks like...a ...a grin!" Avery said grinning himself. Evelyn scoffed and shoved Avery off the bench. He yelled and caused Lestrange and Tom to laugh.
"You deserved that." Tom said stealing Avery's seat next to Evelyn. Avery gasped in mock betrayal. Tom ignored him and turned to Evelyn.
"But really, what has you smiling?" He asked.
"Oh, you know, can't wait to see my parents." Evelyn lied. Tom grimaced and nodded.
"Yep. Summer vacation is approaching." Tom said. Evelyn didn't push further as to why he didn't want to go home. He was an orphan, and lived in an Orphanage. She knew that. Evelyn went back to eating her lunch.
Once more, Evelyn found herself wandering the grounds by herself. Hogwarts had a way of taking the breath of people away at the sight of it. She sat down and took a deep breath, everything was alright. Then everything went wrong right there."Stop it! I refuse to listen to your awful words!" Myrtle yelled. Olive Hornby looked offended. Evelyn immediately walked over and Olive Hornby walked away. Myrtle turned to her and snapped.
"What?? I can't stand up for myself? You think I'm weak!" Myrtle yelled.
"No! Not at all!" Evelyn said alarmed. What was happening!
"You're just like every other Slytherin! Thinking that you're better than everyone!" Myrtle continued to yell.
"Myrtle please! I was just trying to help!" Evelyn tried to explain. Myrtle gave a shout of denial and turned and ran.
"No! Wait!" Evelyn said running after the Ravenclaw. Evelyn sped after the girl hoping to catch up.
"Myrtle!" She called running up the stairs. When Evelyn got to the top she heard the slamming of a door. Then Evelyn realized what corridor she was in and gasped.
"NO!!" Evelyn screamed running up to the girl's bathroom door. She banged on the door with fear.
"Myrtle! Please open the door!" Evelyn pleaded.
"Go away!!" She heard Myrtle yell through the door. Evelyn tried harder to pry the door open, but stopped when she heard something. Faint hissing noises. No no no!!!
"I said go AWA---" Myrtle's yell was cut off, and the hissing was gone.
"NO!" Evelyn screamed with tears falling down her cheeks. She finally remembered her wand and yelled,
"Alohomora!"
The door finally opened. Gasping, Evelyn ran inside the bathroom. She stopped at the sight in front of her. Myrtle was on the ground in a heap. Her skin was pale, and her eyes were closed.
"N-no." Evelyn moaned and dropped next to the muggleborn girl. She checked her pulse and sobbed when she didn't feel one.
"Help!!! Somebody!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!"
Evelyn screamed, more tears fell down as she held the dead girl. Evelyn barely registered Professors pulling her away and asking her questions. But she couldn't think. If she had been faster!! Evelyn felt horrible! Myrtle Elizabeth Warren was dead.
