John's mother died somewhere on May 1770. Laurens was incredibly devastated to the point where his father (a man who doesn't know what the fuck are even human emotions, that emotionally manipulative prick—) wrote "Poor Jack is much to be pitied. He has been almost inconsolable for the Loss of his Mother".

Though we don't know much about Eleanor, is very likely that she had a strong impact in John's love for art and science. She tended to the expansive gardens on the Laurens properties and this are what probably sparked John's interest in studying plants and animals (and not only turtles).

Honestly this mother-son relationship sounded so adorable, why do all mothers had to die on those times jfc???
