Usually, I wouldn't listen to the orders. Usually, I would do whatever the heck I wanted. But it was close to dark and I didn't want to be stuck out here after dark, so I went where I was told.
I was the first person to arrive there. It was a big clearing, and it looked like an old campsite. There were empty tents everywhere, and old and probably dull weapons. I found a bow that was still in good condition and some black-tipped arrows in a quiver and put them across my shoulders. I took a swig from my canteen and my stomach growled.
I quickly started a fire and skinned my squirrel, just as my uncle had taught me. The squirrel was almost done cooking on a spit by the time I heard voices and loud footsteps growing closer.
"No, I told you, he said we both need to catch something!" a girl's voice said.
"No, catching another mole was just a waste of time!" said a boy's voice. "He said we need to bring an animal to get in!"
"He said an animal each!"
"No, he did not!"
"Well, at least we're here! At least we can get in!"
"Yes, now that we went half an hour out of our way to get something we don't need!"
Two people stepped out of the woods to my right and stopped bickering instantly.
"Well, at least we're not alone," the girl, who held a small, virtually all-bones squirrel in her left hand, said. She crossed over to me with no fear, much to the boy's disapproval. She came to stand right in front of me. "Hello!" she said cheerfully. "My name is Edith, and this is my twin brother, Ellis."The boy, Ellis, came hesitently over to us and stood slightly behind Edith. "She doesn't like us - She probably won't even talk to us. Let's just go."
I held up my right hand. "I'm Kasey."
She looked proudly to her brother and gripped my hand with hers. She smiled broadly and then sat down beside me as she released my hand. "I see you're cooking your squirrel," she said, a bit confused. "That boy never said we could."
I shrugged. "He never said we couldn't," I told her, smiling slightly.
She shrugged also. "I guess you're right, but my squirrel's quite tiny, so..."
"Mine was pretty big, so I guess I could share a little. But only a little."
Her smile went into her glittery eyes. "Really?" Then Ellis whispered something to her and her face fell. "No, thank you, but this is your squirrel - you earned it."
Mine fell, too. "Are you sure?"
Edith nodded. "I'm sure."
I sighed. "Okay."
There was more talking in the distance. Cursing, actually. Loud cursing. "Why the hell did it have to be me? I am not an out-doors person! Ah! Damn it!"
"That's probably Mikah," Ellis whispered to us.
"Who?" I asked, looking back at him.
"You'll see," he muttered, and dipped his head down a little to indicate a tall girl in stripper's heels and a short, extremely revealing dress with lots of holes and slits, not to mention completely covered in dirt. Her hair was extremely wavy and reached down to her waist. It was brown, and a part of it was braided prettily. Her eyes were a striking blue. And she wasn't alone. Behind her was a boy, a good-looking boy at that, with sandy blond hair. But that's where compliments end. His eyes were the color of moldy dirt, and he had muscle, but he was extremely skinny. It wasn't a very good look on his handsome face, which had very sharp cheek bones. They stuck out so much I thought they would rip through his skin.
