CHAPTER 8

Elizabeth slapped Sasha so hard that she almost tripped over. "Mum!",Sasha shouted holding her cheeks.

" Don't mum me!"Elizabeth shouted back.

"What have I told you about coming to see this unfortunate people,Elizabeth said in a tone full of spite.

" Mum,I just came here to wish Aaric a happy birthday,Sasha said in between sobs.

"I don't care to know why you came here" Elizabeth shouted.

"We are leaving this instant", Beth said as she drags Sasha.

Elizabeth stopped in her track due to Mary's hands on her shoulder. "Elizabeth, you needn't get angry. Sasha only came to wish Aaric, her best friend a happy birthday",Mary said calmly.

" there is nothing bad in that, Mary noted.

Not wanting to listen to Mary, Elizabeth proceeds to leave still dragging Sasha. She eventually stops again when Mary said something she liked to hear." Yes we are poor. We don't have daily meal. We are below your family, but that doesn't mean that this issue should ruin our children's relationship", Mary said in a low and submissive voice.

"Your are right when you said you are below us. That's because you are. You are not destined to reach our level", Elizabeth said mockingly.

"Aside what you just said, the fact remains that Sasha sneaked out of the house without my knowledge",Elizabeth remarked.

" and of all the places to come to,she came to this stinking house",beth said looking round the Miller's house with disgust.

Elizabeth's attention falls on Aaric who has been watching all that happened in awe. Elizabeth lets go of Sasha's house and walks towards Aaric.
Stopping in front of Aaric. Elizabeth raises her hands and slaps him twice."never in your life think that you can reach my daughters level. She is way above your league. You are just a poor boy. The son of a gardener that can barely take care of his family", Elizabeth spat.

Aaric remained speechless as hot tears rolled down his eyes. He looks down at his feet as he feels ashamed to look directly at Sasha.

Not feeling satisfied, Elizabeth raises her hands once again and wants to hit Aaric, but is stopped by Mary. Turing to look at Mary,Elizabeth sees her eyes. Mary's eyes were red with anger and she holds Beth's hands tightly.

"You will not hit my son again. Not ever in your life, Mary shouted. I bow down my head to you, I tolerated your insults, but,Mary stressed;I can't let you hit my son".

" you have done enough, Mary said as she lets go of Elizabeth's hands. You should get out of my house now or else I promise to kick you and your daughter out",Mary spat.

Mary turns to Sasha and she warns her not to ever come to her house again. "Not ever", Mary remarked. Sasha had never seen Mary in this state before. She has red eyes filled with anger and she is breathing rapidly.

" hey hey hey!don't shout at my child. We are leaving", Elizabeth said as she pulls Sasha.

While leaving the Miller's house. Sasha looks over her shoulder and her eyes lands on Aaric's face. "I am sorry",she muttered. Aaric's expressionless face is the last thing she sees before leaving home.

At home. Elizabeth pushes Sasha inside the house before closing the door behind her. " where do you think you are going to,Elizabeth asked. I hope you know that you are not going Scott free from what you did today ".

" you left home without my permission and went to the Miller's house. Also, I was insulted by a good for nothing woman",Elizabeth spat.

Elizabeth walks to the room and comes back in a jiffy with a long cane in her hands. She uses it to touch Sasha so as to get her attention. Sasha looks up and is shocked by the sight of the cane in her mum's hands.

"Mum! what do you want to use that for?", Sasha asked. Not replying, Elizabeth whips Sasha with the cane. She didn't stop. Sasha begs" mum please. I promise not to disobey you. Mum please! Mum please! Sasha shouted.

It seemed as if Elizabeth's ears had gone deaf to Sasha's pleas. She whips her all over not sparing the delicate organs.
"Mum I beg you, Sasha pleads" as she falls to her knees. Feeling that her mum will not spare her,Sasha runs to her room. As she gets there, her mum entered. "You will not escape me Sasha stone! You will not! Elizabeth said as she whips her again and again.

Sasha feels weak her body is covered with scares. She is drifting in and out of consciousness. A familiar voice is what she hears before she faints.
