CHAPTER SIX
Soon enough, night time approached them. The clock striked nine in the evening yet the duo still hadn't returned from their trip. Their parents weren't too worried for their children's absence since they were already used Jin and Jisoo's little antics. This time, Jin had brought the both of them to a cavern near the ocean that he had managed to stumble upon in his freshman year.
Back then, Jin had only recently started puberty and was slowly learning of his feelings for his best friend. He was confused, he didn't know what it felt like falling in love. Was it care that he had mistaken for love? And so in a daze, he sneaked out of his house in the wee hours of the morning through his bedroom window, a crime of young teenage rebellion that he had managed to pull off.
The cool sensation of the night air kissed his skin, sending goosebumps all over his exposed arms, yet Jin still couldn't let the thought of his best friend growing up into a young adolescent off from his mind. It was during literature class when Jin and Jisoo was partnered up for a project together. He still couldn't forget the sparkle in her eyes as she marveled in admiration over Edgar Allen Poe's poems, a rosy blush adorning her cheeks as she discovered the true meaning behind them. In that moment, she was truly the most prettiest girl he had ever seen.
Perhaps her passion was all it took to spur his enamour and pursuit in his best friend. But Jisoo hadn't realize that Jin was staring at her, for she was too absorbed in the beauty of Edgar's poetry. It was in that small, bubble of time that Jin realized he might be falling in love with his best friend.
He wandered around by himself underneath the streetlights, through the neighbourhood park, and past the noisy pub, lost in his thoughts and rendered by his unfocused mind. He only realized he got himself stranded when the road in front of him had slowly started to clear up into a continuous chain. He tried to scurry his way back, but only landed himself in a field of space with no crops or flowers blooming around it, only an endless sea of black and blue as its view. Unknowingly, the place had also warmed up to become his place for solace.
"What is this place?" Jisoo asked, awestruck by how this hidden area could be one of the most undeniably illusory place she had ever seen.
"I found it back when we were fourteen years old," Jin shrugged, trying to repress the memory that led to his discovery of his secret hideout. "I've been coming back here ever since I found out about it." Jin proceeded to lie down on the sandy area, not minding that his clothes would be full of dirt and dust as he was already used to it. He placed his hands underneath his head and stared up ahead, letting his demeanour be entirely stripped bare in front of nature's aesthetic senses.
Jisoo glanced at him and followed suit, not wanting to eradicate the opportunity to be around his warmth. She inhaled deeply and looked up into the sky. They didn't talk, they only listened to the howl of the wind and the crashing of the waves against the shores.
