"Charlie, will you hand me my skates?" I asked with a fake smile.
"Yeah, sure thing Mer." Charlie handed me my skates without looking up or even noticing that I was really upset. Ever since he and Tanith had gotten together, it seemed he didn't have time for me. I understand that she's your girlfriend and you need to spend a lot of time with her but I'm his partner. Of course, we see each other on the ice but that's it. I just don't feel like in matter to anyone anymore, whether it's him or my family. Everyone just left me in the dust. Even the man I thought I loved. I still can't believe that he cheated on me with my (ex) bestfriend. "Meryl? You okay? You seem a little pale." A concerned look suddenly took over Charlie's face.
"I'm fine. I'm just tired." I muttered without looking up. Honestly I was actually tired. Tired of being left alone. After finishing lacing up my skates, I walked slowly onto the ice. Before I could even look for Charlie, he came up behind me and picked me up in my favorite lift position. For the first time in five months I actually smiled and laughed. Marina wouldn't be at the rink for another hour or so, so Charlie and I just played around. Marina walked in so quietly that even my hawk ears couldn't pick her foot steps up. Charlie and I were in the middle of our newly choreographed routine, when after one of the lifts, Marina started cheering us on. The noise startled both me and Charlie and we lost our balance. Marina gasped as we fell to the ground, hard. Everything went black.
