The next morning, I woke up to the smell of chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. I reached for my phone that was charging and unplugged it. I had four "Get Well Soon!" text messages and a voicemail from my ex-boyfriend. "What does he want?" I thought to myself.
Before I could check the voicemail, Charlie came running in and said "Hey! Sleeping Beauty is up! How are you feeling, honey?" Charlie was awfully joyful for a guy that had just been dumped by someone he loved.
"I... I'm fine. Why are you so happy?" I wasn't used to seeing Charlie be his old self and honestly, had forgotten what it was like to be around the 'always happy' Charlie. Maybe it was because I hadn't talked to him in forever?
"Meryl, I realized that I can't live life in the past, I have to move on. Clearly Tanith didn't love me the same way I loved her so why dwell on it? Plus, I'm hanging out with the greatest person in the world. In the universe even! Meryl Davis, I am so sorry for pushing you away. Tanith blinded me, will you ever forgive me?" At this point, Charlie was standing on a chair and shouting like he was on top of a mountain. I began to laugh so hard that 1. I was crying and 2. I couldn't speak.
"Alright then, since you physically can't speak or move, I shall be your chariot." This action made me laugh even more. He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder and ran down the flight of stairs. In the living room, he threw me onto the couch and began to tickle me.
"Charlie! Charlie stop! I can't breathe!" I said laughing uncontrollably. Now he was straddling me and out of breath.
"You are a loud screamer. I think I went a little deaf." Charlie chuckled and then heard then oven timer go off. He jumped off me and said, "Oh shit! My muffins is a burin'!"
"Is he trying to imitate a southern black lady?" I asked myself. "If so, it's hilarious!"
Charlie came running back, "Thank God breakfast isn't ruined. Let's go buttercup!" He picked me up once again and placed me gently on a barstool. He handed me a full plate of scrambled eggs, toast, two small chocolate chip pancakes with a slab of butter, a blueberry muffin with butter, three pieces of bacon, and a glass of orange juice.
