I pulled out my house key and nervously unlocked my front door. What did he want and why is he dressed so nicely? Bringing him into my kitchen, I started to freak a little bit. Will he hurt me again? While I am lost in my conflicting thoughts, Luke looks at me almost waiting for me to answer.

            “Meryl?”

“Sorry, what did you say? I didn’t hear you.”

“I’m sorry for what I did to you. I was so stupid, Meryl, you were the best thing that had ever happened to me. Instead of loving you the same way you loved me, I pushed you away. Almost a year after you left, I realized just how important you were to me. What I did to you was awful. I just needed to see you and apologize. So, I came all the way from California to Michigan to do this. Please forgive me, Meryl.” I stood in shock with her mouth open. Luke obviously picked up on my shock and tried to stand up to leave.

“I forgive you.” I said quietly, keeping him from walking out the door. He turned around in shock.

“I didn’t think you would actually forgive me. I thought you would just hit me and tell me to get out of your life forever. Which is exactly what you did to me a year ago.” He said chuckling.

“No, thanks for coming all this way, its really sweet of you. But, I have to be up early in the morning. Do you have somewhere to stay?” I asked hoping for a ‘Yes’.

“Actually, I don’t. I just drove here and I was planning on flying back tonight.” Luke said with a slight smile. I thought about asking him if he wanted to stay the night, but realized that I was already practically dating two guys. I finally decided not to ask.

“Oh ok. Well have a safe trip!” I said awkwardly, almost shutting the door in his face. ‘That was so rude.’ I thought to myself.

While I was lying in bed that night, I began to think about the horrible choice I made earlier today. Why would I say ‘Yes’ to a date when I am clearly dating someone else? What in the world was I thinking!? Most importantly, what am I going to do if I really like Jason? All of a sudden, I heard my phone ding.

“Speaking of the devil” I muttered to myself. I looked down at my phone and was surprised to see my mom’s name across the screen.

“Hey, Meryl! Your dad and I just got off the cruise ship and are heading home. Just thought I would let you know. You’re probably sleeping so, I will text you in the morning. Love you!”

My mom always finds a way to comfort me when I need her. She doesn’t even have to know the situation to cheer me up. I decided to turn on the TV and watch old movies until I fell asleep. I was only thirty minutes into Footloose when I was fast asleep.
