Meryl's POV

As Charlie stomped out of my room, I felt my heart start to ache. Why did I have to go on the stupid date? Does Charlie love me anymore? My rhetorical questions were interrupted by my mother running in asking all kinds of questions.

"Meryl, what happened between you and Charlie? He just left, sobbing." She sat down next to me in bed, holding my hand.

"I went on an innocent date with a guy I met at the rink. Charlie looked at my phone and he'd texted me saying 'I love you'. Then Charlie said I had cheated on him and that he needed time to himself. I don't want to lose him." Huge tears began to form in my eyes, blurring my vision.

"Well, do you love him back? The guy I mean." My mom's face was calm, almost like she'd done this a million times.

"I don't think so. When he kissed me goodnight, I felt a tiny spark. But when I kiss Charlie, it's like fireworks exploding. How will Charlie ever forgive me?" I cried into my pillow.

"He will, on his own time. Right now, you don't need to worry about that. Get some rest." She kissed my forehead and walked outside.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, the doctor came strolling in with a smile on his face.

"Hello, Miss Davis! I have great news!"
