"So are you ready for the summer of a lifetime?" My best friend Rowan asked me while we lay on my large, comfortable bed in my room. She laid her head on my lap and I ran my hand through her shoulder length brown hair and nodded as a response. She looked up at me, her gorgeous baby blue eyes staring back at me while confusion. "Doesn't seem like it."
"You know why," I sighed continuously flicking her ends. "Markus will have a fit if I'm not within two miles of him."
"I can understand if he's concerned about your well being, or if anyone was interested in you; but I mean come on, he's allowed to date Carla and you can't go to the mall without him knowing."
"Yeah, but that's just the way it is," I gritted out of my teeth. Jealousy washed through my blood and I almost exploded.
"It's stupid, but I do understand why anyway." She mumbled.
"You understand?" I asked suddenly shocked by the words of my friend. She hated Markus as much as I do, and even tells him that on a regular basis. "How could you possible understand why he is dating Carla when I'm his mate?"
"He's older than you right? He's had to have someway of controlling his wolf when you weren't around. I can understand why fifteen-year-old Markus wouldn't want to have sex with twelve-year-old you."
"What about now? I'm sixteen and he's nineteen, our parents knew of our mating way before I was born and now you're telling me you understand why my mate is a possessive asshole?"
"When you say it like that you make is seem terrible-"
"Because it is terrible! He sucks face with Carla and when I see them, I feel like a piece of my heart and soul dies. I'm watching my mate be with someone else, and no one is doing nothing about it!"
"No one is doing nothing about it because he's your mate. Not mine. Not your mother's. Definitely not Carla. You're letting him do whatever he wants, but he has a leash on you for some reason. This is why I say give him a taste of his own medicine. Me and you, my parents' beach house, and one whole summer of teenage fun. Club Toxic is ten minutes away, we live near all the local restaurants and clothing stores. There is a beach in the damn backyard for God sakes. We'll have fun. Me and you. Row and El, just like old times-well before Markus really had a profound strain on your social life."
I looked down at her and smiled. Maybe she's right, Markus controlling everything I do, when I do it, where I do it, who I do it with, it annoys me and he gets to get away with and I can't even get him not to kiss on Carla in front of me. Just because he's Alpha. Well guess what? I'm Alpha too. I'm the Alpha female of the newly formed Western Hemisphere Wolf pack and I have a God damn say in what I do! I'm not four, and I should don't need Markus bossing me around.
"When are we leaving?"
"Well," She looked at the silver clock on my wall and pondered for a minute. "It's already noon and it take about five hours to get there, so how about now?"
"Now?"
"Yes now, no one will know. Just me and you and when they do figure out we're gone. It probably won't be for a few days because of the Alpha males' meeting."
"I don't know..."
"Do you want to prove to Markus you're not his bitch or not?"
I bit my lip. Should I finally break away from this overbearing shell Markus keeps me locked in while he had fun? Should I finally listen to my mother and friend when they say it's time for me to live? " How fast can you get to your house, pack, and then meet me here?"
"Give me a half an hour and you got a deal." She smiled jumping up and off the bed. Her shimmery, sliver sequence top matched her silver gladiators and contrasted against her white pants when she dance around my room to the door. " You're doing the right thing to have fun Ella,"
