Nine

*One Year Later*

 Mitch was finally starting to get it. He was grasping his powers. "Good, one-year!" Sun said as Mitch shot a large fireball from his hand. There was a small explosion on the dirt floor, which the Wisps immediately got to work fixing. "Again!"

 This went on for a while. I was allowed to watch as long as I didn't interfere. I was five now, and given a few more privileges. Like watching training.

 This went on for a while, and then Mitch was allowed to take a break. I went over to him. "Hi," I said. We hadn't talked for a while.

 "Hey, Kir- Ice." He said. He knew to call me by my Element Name when we were in the Den. His orange eyes fixed on my own. I admit, I was going to miss his brown eyes. I mean, the contacts would return them to normal, but they wouldn't really be brown.

 They would just be orange. Forever.

 "That night when Heat tried to kill me, did you... did you say you love me?" He asked. Crap. I was trying to avoid the topic, which was mostly why we hadn't talked much. I knew I meant that I loved him, but I also knew he didn't return the feelings.

 "Yes..." I admitted. He reached out and tilted my head upwards. There was no spark anymore. He had learned to cool his skin down enough so he could touch me. Plus, he was a one-year, which meant he couldn't have melted me if he tried. The only reason I had started to melt that night last year, was because of the blankets. I shouldn't have fallen asleep. But I did, and I almost died because of it.

"I like you too, Ice. Not sure to what extent, but maybe... maybe we could take it slow, test the waters." 

"I... don't know. It was bad enough when you were a mortal, now you're an Elemental. It would be different if you were a Spring Element, but Summer... you're my polar opposite. Can we even be together?"

 "I don't know, either, Ice. But I know that we can try."
