A month later, Mitch was deemed ready to be released. He had been trained longer than me, but I guess Summer was harder to learn. It was September when he was released, so I'd be called back soon to help with Fall. But for now, the sun was dominating the earth and everything was kept warm.
We were doing well. We'd already kissed... a bunch, but nothing more. Our relationship consisted of sneaking out of our rooms in the Den to see each other. There had been some making out, but not much. I was glad he was only a one-year, because it meant we were totally safe around each other. When he got older, there may be some complications...
"Ice," Mitch said as we stood in the elevator on the way up to him and Scott's apartment.
"Don't call me that when we're in the mortal world, sweetie." I said, running my finger over his chin. "It's Kirstie again."
"Ugh, this is so confusing." He complained. I chuckled.
"You'll get used to it."
The elevator dinged and we walked onto the right floor. No one was around, so I changed our appearances to look like our mortal selves. Mitch wasn't strong enough to do it yet, but since I was a five-year, I could both change my own appearance and the appearance of others. But they had to be willing, or it wouldn't work.
We had already put our contacts back in, but our hair and skin had to be changed. Mitch had grown extremely tan, and I was pale as usual. I was now back to my normal state, as was he, and our hair was back to its normal color.
"Now, extreme emotion will cause your powers to go out of control. Since you're so young, any emotion will do it. When you get older, it'll only be anger and desperation that can trigger it. Once you're eight, you will have total control over your emotion. If this is triggered by happiness, you won't go out of control, but your appearance will. Your skin will get extremely tan, your hair will return to orange, and your contacts will burn off."
"Sounds painful."
"It is."
"So how do I keep it under control?"
"For now, you're going to have to try to keep yourself from feeling too much. Unless you're around me," I laughed, smirking and giving a wink. He rolled his eyes and we came up to the door.
Mitch's POV
Kirstie was so cute. I really think I was falling for her. I don't even care about sexuality anymore. I guess I'm bisexual or something.
I knocked on the door and Scott opened it up. God he was a mess. "Mitch? Kirstie?" He asked. His eyes widened. "We thought you guys were dead! This is great!"
I smiled. "Hey! We went on a vacation." I explained. I had learned to lie. It was a skill that all Elementals needed, so their mortal friends and family didn't ask too many questions.
"Without telling anyone?"
"Well... yeah."
"You two... whatever. Come on, inside. We'll talk on the couch." He said. Kirstie and I entered the house and were greeted with the sight of Kevin, Esther, and Avi on the couch.
"You're back!" Avi exclaimed. "We were looking everywhere!"
I felt happy. Almost too happy. But I pushed down the emotion. I had to be careful.
This was so hard...
