Enjoy.

In this world, people are bound to one another by fate. That sounds cool and all, but it's not your typical "red string", or tattoo, or whatnot. In this world, you're born with a mark, one that only you can see. It shows the first place that your significant will touch you.

The catch was that it was skin to skin, and only with their hands.

These seemed like stupid rules and every now and then Gold scoffed at the thought that it was even a thing. Whoever came up with the rules was a little too specific, what if you never touched them directly with you hands?

Supposedly from what his mom had told him, when you found this other person, you could temporarily see their mark, before they faded away, from your and their sight.

That was a relief, Gold thought that if he had to look at this mark for the rest of his life he'd probably die.

Gold ran his fingers over the mark on his cheek, he almost wanted to laugh as he did. The mark on his face was almost a perfect hand-print.

It wasn't proven, but most people thought that the color of the mark represented the emotion of the other when they touched you. Gold's was mostly pink, which was thought to have meant love, but also there were smudges of yellow and purple. He wasn't quite sure what those colors meant, but he wasn't all that concerned. When it happened, it would happen, he just hoped that whoever he was "destined" to be with worked out well.

Gold was starting to get annoyed. Most of his friends had already found their soul mates, but he was lagging behind. He flirted all the time, but none of them ended up being the one.

"Do I have to go?" Gold whined, leaning back in his chair, his phone held up to his ear.

"Yes! My sister wants me to go, but I don't know anyone else there. You have to come, Kris already turned me down." Gold's friend Silver pleaded through the phone.

Silver's adopted sister Blue had invited him to a party she was throwing. Apparently Silver was having a tough time imagining that he would be able to socialize with her friends.

Usually Gold was all about partying, but he just wasn't feeling it today. His hands lazily traced his mark while he thought about it, "How many people?" he asked, he didn't feel like socializing either right now.

"Six, not including me and you." Silver said calmly. That didn't sound too bad. They were a little older than them, he knew, but not much, so it wouldn't be that bad.

Gold let out an exasperated and exaggerated groan, "Fine," he sighed, "but you owe me."

"Gotcha, thanks." Silver said hanging up on him, the party was tonight, so he'd have to get ready soon.

Gold pulled his car into Blue's driveway. Approaching the door, he could already hear laughter coming from inside.

He assumed that he was the last one here, it wasn't a formal party, so he didn't exactly have to be here early. He doubted that anyone besides Silver would mind anyway.

When the door opened, he was greeted with the boisterous voice of Blue, "Hey, you're Silvy's friend, right? Glad you could join the party!" she dragged him in by the hand. She was a cute girl, he wouldn't have minded if she had been the one he was supposed to be with, but judging by the fact that she grabbed his arm, he already knew that was out of the question.
