Taylor put on a heavy blue coat and sunglasses, then fixed her red wig that was tightly gripping to her scalp in a convincing manner.
She kept her head down. Being back here in New York for the first time in years brought back all the memories of the paparazzi bombarding her. All of the things she had almost forgotten.
She knew where he lived, thanks to Google and a few dedicated fans of his. She walked right up to his apartment building before stopping and rolling her eyes.
How could she have forgotten? Nobody knows that she's Taylor Swift. She can't just show up at his door and expect them to let her in.
She quickly pulled out her phone and called Aidan, her old security guard who was now head of this department. She remembered a back entrance where they would sneak in on late nights, a place nobody knew about except them.
So she walked around to the back, walked through a dark tunnel that used to be a road, and saw the same wooden door that they used to run through holding hands.
She shoved the door really hard a couple of times. Thankfully, eventually, it budged, and she was in the apartment complex.
She knew the floor he lived on, so she quickly ran up the stairs (not risking anyone noticing she didn't belong there if she took the elevator) and found her way to room 107.
She knocked once, and there was no answer. She knocked again, harder, and this time, she heard something click.
"Who are you?" A dark brown haired girl asked.
This wasn't Kendall, whom she had expected to run into.
No. This was way more personal.
"Selena? What are you doing here?" Taylor said, a tear running down her cheek.
"I'm going to call security if you don't tell me what yo..."
Taylor rolled her teary eyes and pulled off the wig and sunglasses.
"Taylor?" Selena said, opening the door a little more and walking closer to get a better look.
"Hey." Taylor said shyly, looking embarrassed for a second after remembering Selena thought that she, unlike the rest of the world, has been dead for years.
Selena pulled her into a tight hug and basically tacked her inside.
"I thought you were..." Selena began to cry really hard. "What happened?"
"I had Brin." Taylor said, glancing around to look for him.
"He's not here, I'm just the babysitter. Brin likes me better than Kendall and the rest of this friends." She said smiling slightly. "Wait. You're Brin's Mom?"
"Yeah." Taylor laughed at how shocked she was. It was weird to think that this was the only thing she managed to keep from the media all these years. It's amazing how long she has been able to go on without anyone knowing.
"Why did you disappear?" Selena said, frowning again.
"I had to! I couldn't let Brin grow up in that environment. I wanted to protect her. And I needed a break. I'm sorry I didn't tell you, only my family and Karlie knew up until Harry and Jake..."
"Jake! So that's how he knew!" Selena said, gasping. "Why did he know before me?"
"I didn't want him to. And now since he told people about Brin, she's had to come here and live the life that I wanted to keep her away from." Taylor sighed. "Can I see her?"
"Yeah! Of course!" Selena shut the door behind them and ran off to go find Brin.
Eventually, Brin came running into Taylor's arms.
"I missed you, girl! You've gotten bigger! And your hair is longer." Taylor noticed that her bands almost covered her eyes and her hair that was just a little below her shoulders now fell farther down on her back. "It hasn't even been that long!"
"I missed you too!" Brin said, kissing her mom on the cheek before burying herself into Taylor's coat.
"Sel, you can't tell anyone, okay?" Taylor said, looking over at her friend who was smiling and still crying.
"I promise." Selena said.
Then, they heard the door creak open.
