Chapter 12
I opened my eyes and heard a page in a book turn. It sounded like someone was in the room but I couldn't tell for sure.
I pushed myself up and ran a hand through my hair.
"About time you woke up."
I turned my head toward the voice. Aryan's voice. Even though he saved me just the day before, I was still so happy he was with me.
"What?" I responded, my brain not working enough to understand what was going on.
"You've been sleeping all day. It's almost midnight."
"Oh."
He set the book down and the bed dipped when he sat down beside me. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Kellan's mad at me and I think Lucy is too and I don't know what to do."
He pulled me into a tight hug and started rubbing my back. He paused to ask me something. "Does this hurt?"
I shook my head.
He rested his chin on the top of my head. "Lucy called that doctor."
I groaned. "Why?"
"She's worried about you. She can't heal you and you can't even heal yourself. She's afraid that something's seriously wrong."
"I could've told her that."
He pulled back but I grabbed his arm so he couldn't get too far away. "What do you mean?"
"You were there!"
"Julia... they didn't do experiments on me. I don't think they used a single needle on me."
"You've got to be kidding me."
"I'm not."
"Then what... I hate him. I hate him so much."
"I only saw Lucy's dad once the whole time. The day he was with you. Other than that, I had no contact with him at all. Only this cute doctor-"
I smacked him, cutting him off. "This whole time he's wanted me to be his daughter but I felt like he really wanted me to be his wife or something."
"That's sick."
"Tell me about it."
"Anyway, that doctor Lucy knows is coming around six. She wanted Holden to check things out first. But she wanted you awake for that."
"I guess I don't get a say in that, either."
He ran a hand through my messy, dirty hair. "It will be over with soon, okay? Then no more poking and prodding."
I grabbed his hand and linked my fingers around his. "Fine. Just don't go anywhere."
He pulled my face up and kissed me, catching me off guard. "I promise."

"Holden?" Aryan yelled out. He insisted he carry me on his back down the stairs so he wouldn't have to feel guilty about me falling down them. It made sense but I still thought it was stupid.
"Why is he camped out in the basement?" I whispered. I hadn't been down to the basement since my 'tour' of the house. Even then, it seemed creepy. Being blind took it to a whole other level.
The room smelled like incense and roses. It was a weird combination that made me want to sneeze.
"He didn't want to over-stay his welcome."
