CHAPTER ONE"Come on Gams our luggage should be this way" I say trying to direct my Grandmother through the busy airport so that we can collect our luggage and meet our family who is picking up us on time and with out any major mishaps. I lead her down the crowded airport halls to the bagged claim and sort through the bags till I find ours. For such a little old lady my gams sure does back a tone of stuff. I drag our things through the rest of the airport zig zagging and dogging through people and trying to keep an eye on my grandmother who is practically running with giddiness until we emerge from arrivals to see the smiling faces of my great aunt Aggy and uncle Gordo. I hadn't realized that i'd broken a sweat until I leaned in for a hug from Aggy who was so excited to see us that she probably hadn't even noticed my clammy skin. "Hudson darling you look splendid" she chimes in my ear before letting go of me. She then tightly hugged my Grandmother and they both started giggling like school girls. I loved seeing my Gams's face when her and her sister are together. " Hey uncle Gordo" I say walking over to him as the ladies finish laughing. Then we all finish our hellos and hugs and Aggy and uncle Gordo lead us out to their car and help me get the bags in the trunk. The little car putts along the highway and off onto the dirt roads of Regina until we pull into the cottage Aggy and Gordo own and start to get out. The property is just as I remembered large with lake front access and holds a massive cottage big enough for our entire family plus a guest house. Three boats line the long dock and kayaks are beached along the shoreline, I can just see threw the trees that line the property to the cottage next to ours, its just as big and pretty as ours. The people who occupy that cottage are probably just as old as my Grandmother, Aunt Aggy and Uncle Gordo - maybe richer though cuse they have a fabulous boat garage - I think to myself as I squint to try and get a better view of our neighbours.
Aggy gave me the guest house to stay in so after I settle the Gamsters in I walk down the path that is just along the tree line bumping my suitcase over the stones and rocks to get to the house. I get all my clothes unpacked and put my things away in the drawers and closet that accompany the cozy bedroom and start to make my way back up to the cottage when I get my first glimpse of the residents next door. "NOT OLD" I scream in my head as my eyeballs focus in on the boy through the tree line. He looks to be about my age, maybe a few years older. His hair was a warm sand colour that waved over his eyebrows and merky green eyes and then it curled down to his ears. He combed it back with his fingers and I could see the muscles ripple slightly over his tanned skin as he walked back into his cottage. I then realized that I had just been full on staring and hoped he hadn't noticed me. Embarrassed from spying but somewhat excited from my new discovery I started walking back up to the main cottage when a large brown blob came hurtling towards me at the speed of light. "BUSTER!" I yell as I embrace the large St.Bernard who was still just a pup but happened to be three times the size of me. I gave Buster a good pat and cuddled him for a while and then lead him back into the main cottage where I found Gams and Aggy chatting in the kitchen and uncle Gordo sitting on the couch watching golf. I went to sit with the ladies to hear what they were gossiping about and Buster came and sat at my feet. "Oh dear there you are, I was just telling your Grandmother that tomorrow night is the streets block party. The whole street gets done up in lights and everyone comes out and drinks and the young kids play music and we all dance and eat bbq and food and oh it is just so much fun." Said Aggy with out taking a single breathe, obviously excited at the thought and then my Gams chimed in how excited she is "Huddy I am so excited..." She tells me " you need to pick me out a hot outfit, one I can do dance real good in". Oh god I thought, whenever Gams drinks she always gets so feisty and never wants to stop dancing, it will turn into a shit show, but maybe the hottie neighbour will be there. I roll my eyes before I reply "ok Gams, I will be sure to do that". I sat quite for the rest of their conversation and let myself daydream about the upcoming nights events. I don't think I even brought anything nice to wear, except maybe that long dark purple maxi with the deep v neckline. I would have to wear my hair up. WHAT! this was not me at ALL! Planning outfits? What had gotten into me! Maybe it was the thought of hottie Mcnehigbour being there that set off this rush of girl vibes but suddenly I couldn't wait for the party. I sat quietly through dinner also then scurried off to my cottage after I tucked my Grandmother into bed, bringing Buster with me of course. I tossed and turned all night as my back adjusted to the new mattress and I tried cuddling Buster to help me but ultimately the sounds off the water crashing over the rocks slowly soothed me to sleep - and the sounds of Busters snores. { whoohoo first chapter done x}
