Chapter 2

"Kay, you're not the first girl to get pregnant in high school. Why would that affect the way I feel about you?" He asked quietly.

"It's not just that I got pregnant Jackson. I partied a lot. I caused a lot of trouble for my parents. On my sixteenth birthday, I decided to go out and get drunk and have the time of my life. I ended up pregnant from that night, and I wasn't quite sure who the father was because I was very drunk. My parents finally had enough of me and my troubled ways, and they kicked me out of the house. I spent my entire pregnancy homeless. At first, I would crash at friends' houses, but once I started showing, they didn't want me to stay there. They didn't want their parents to know that they hung out with the pregnant girl." Kay tried to stay strong, but she was starting to feel the tears sting her eyes. She hadn't talked about this time in her life in many years.

"Kay, I don't think differently of you. You're parents shouldn't have kicked you out." Jackson wrapped his arms around her and let her cry. He had an urge to protect her from getting hurt.

"There's more." It came out in a whisper. She didn't know if she could continue.

"Not today. That's enough. Just let me hold you for a while. I am not ready to let go." Jackson held her close to him. He couldn't believe that anyone could make a pregnant sixteen year old fend for her self.

Jackson held Kay as she cried, and he could tell that she was trying so hard to stay strong. He knew that she didn't want to cry. He held her until she fell asleep in his arms, and he carried her to her bed. When he put her into her bed, he still wasn't ready to let go. Jackson crawled into the bed with Kay, and just held her while he fell asleep.

Kay woke up in the morning to get ready for work, and she realized that her boss was in her bed. Her face turned red, and she tried to quietly slip out without him noticing. She grabbed her work clothes and headed for the shower. She didn't know what she was going to do. After a long, hot shower, Kay got dressed, did her makeup, and walked back to her doorway. She glanced in her room to see that Jackson was still sleeping comfortably. She didn't know if she should wake him, or just go to work, so she settled for the latter.

Kay went to the restaurant and let herself in the staff door. She knew that she had a lot to do before they opened for the day. She had to do inventory, place her orders for the next week, and she had to go through everyone's time cards for payroll. She turned on the radio and made herself get to work. She was not going to think about Jackson. She was not going to let her mind wander to her extremely sexy boss that was sleeping in her bed. After about two hours of being alone in the restaurant, Kay heard someone enter. She didn't think James would be coming into work that day, because they had just brought their baby home the day before. She didn't know who could be in the store with her.

"You slipped out without saying goodbye." The sad voice came from behind Kay and caused her to jump.

"Jackson, you scared me." She tried to smile at him, but felt very embarrassed.

"You left me asleep in your bed, Kay. Why didn't you wake me up?" She could tell that he was a little angry at her actions.

"You looked peaceful and I didn't want to disturb that. I didn't want to wake you up at 5:00 in the morning Jackson. I had a lot of work to do, and I really didn't want to wake you. I just didn't know what to say to you this morning when I realized that you slept next to me." Her face brightened from blushing, and she looked away from him.

"I'm sorry that I stayed without asking you how you felt about it. I just couldn't bring myself to leave. I can tell that I made you uncomfortable, and you obviously have things here under control, so I am just going to go home. If you need anything, call me. Otherwise, I will be back in for dinner tonight so that you can go home and spend time with Lillie." Jackson turned to leave without another word.
