After a couple minutes, Kay finally came out of her little fainting spell. She was told to move slowly and drink some cold water. Jackson was by her side holding her hand and smiling at her like a mad man. She could tell that he was very excited by the news of them expecting twins. Kay had passed out during the ultrasound and they had to make sure she was okay before they continued, so after she had finished her cup of water, she was instructed to lie back so they could finish the scan.
"I know it's still kind of early Doc, but is it possible to tell the gender of the babies at this point?" Jackson asked with curiosity and excitement.
"Well, Kay is almost seventeen weeks, and we usually check around nineteen or twenty weeks, but I am sure that if we can get at the right angle, we just might be able to tell you. Just be patient with me for a moment while I finish my measurements." The doctor smiled at Jackson and continued to move the wand around on Kay's belly.
Kay stayed silent while the doctor rolled the wand around in the sticky goo that was all over her stomach. She watched the screen and listened to every click of the keyboard as the doctor tapped the keys. She saw him stop on one of the babies, and she took in the beautiful shape of the baby's head and face. She could see the spine, the little arms and legs, and she watched as the heart pumped frequently. As she felt the doctor wiggle the wand around, she noticed that he was trying to get a view between the baby's legs.
"This baby here is giving me a great angle. I know the gender of this one, and I am assuming you would like to know?" He laughed as the parents nodded their heads eagerly. "I am ninety-eight percent sure that this baby is a girl." He smiled.
Jackson squeezed Kay's hand and kissed her on the forehead. He was too full of emotion to be able to speak, but she knew just by looking at him that he was very happy. She knew how good he was with his niece and knew that he would be amazing with their daughter. After they finished their little moment, they turned back to the doctor as he was moving onto the next baby.
Once again, the doctor stopped on the head, the spine, the heart, and checked to make sure everything was developing properly. After a couple minutes, he repeated his actions of trying to get good view of the baby's anatomy. He stopped the wand, clicked a button on the machine, and turned to the parents with a big smile on his face.
"Well, you already know about the first baby, so I may as well just blurt it out. Congratulations, you are having a boy and a girl." He watched as the couple hugged and kissed with smiled plastered on their faces.
"Jackson, can you believe it?" Kay whispered.
"Honey, I am so happy. I cannot wait to tell our family!" He exclaimed.
The doctor finished his last measurements of the babies, cleaned up Kay's stomach, and gave them a few pictures of each baby. They were going home with a profile of each baby, a full body shot of each baby, and a picture showing them the sex of each baby. Kay wanted to stop at the store to get a frame that would hold all six ultrasound pictures to hang on the wall in their house. She also needed to get a few pairs of pants and some shirts that would fit over her quickly growing belly. She was very happy that the doctor took her off of her restrictions and was allowing her to go back to work, as long as she promised not to overdo it. Jackson was very reluctant to agree, but he knew that Kay would hold a grudge against him if he tried to stop her, so he agreed and said he would be there every day to help her with anything she may need.
On the way to the mall, Kay called Lillie and James while Jackson called his mom and Kari. They weren't telling them anything over the phone, so they invited all of them to meet them at the restaurant for dinner. They decided to eat at 'Ava's' that evening, and once the plans were finalized, they went to do their shopping. Kay was surprised that it was her pulling Jackson out of the baby sections of every store instead of the other way around, but she didn't get him out until after he purchased a tee shirt for each child. He got a blue one that said, "Daddy's little man" on it and a pink one that said, "Daddy's little princess".
