Part 41 Of The First Draft
No one except me knew Becky's secret. I had managed to not let the cat out of the bag on our date. Perry can't crack my mind, and he is none the wiser to the fact that Becky had her phone stolen. There is no reason to go over to the Eisens’ today, despite the fact that I want to see him really bad. Perry will have to wait. Today I've decided to spend some time with Becky. With her I might be able to get a better grasp on the situation we have growing with the nefarious Mister Paulson.
“Bye, mom! I'm going to go see Rebecca!”
“Have a good time, Mindi! Give her my regards!”
My mom called back at me, as I exited the door.
For some reason, Carlie was sitting out on the porch, dressed in a black hoody and jeans. She noticed me, and asked,
“Are you going to see Becky?”
I nodded, and Carlie continued on to ask,
“How does she know me?”
I drew speechless, and made up something harmless, after a brief moment of awkwardness,
“Oh...she just likes you for your style and looks. You know how kids are, always admiring pretty adults...”
Carlie seemed unconvinced, and added one thing before I left for Becky's place,
“Make sure you let her know that I forgive her, for whatever she has done. I understand she believes she is in debt to me, for whatever reason.”
Carlie is completely in the dark. Becky feels like Carlie is a lost soul, while Carlie believes the same about Becky. How tragic. Becky's place was awhile from my house, so I had plenty of time to think. I mostly thought about them. Carlie had been talking about finding a place to rent, but she needed a job first. Becky has no possessions and had no idea where she lived as the vampire Carlita. Knowing my mother, she’ll keep Carlie at our house as long as possible. My mom feels indebted to Carlie, that much is obvious. The reasons behind her loyalty to Carlie remains, for the most part, hidden. Their history seems to be something that both of them wish to be silent about, and I have to respect that.
Hi, Becky!”
Both Becky and Veronica were at the door, and I could see that Becky's older and attractive sister seemed pleased that I was here. Veronica let me in, her slender and muscular body filling in her tight puple shirt and jean shorts well. She offered me a seat, and we all enjoyed each other’s company. I complimented Veronica,
“You sure do have a nice place here.”
The place was spotless and filled with nice furniture and cabinets. On one of them stood a picture of their family together. Their parents looked so happy in that picture. It's a shame that everyone good in life dies. We aren't a perfect species, but humans are often the most underated of creatures. Whether we are lycanthropes, vampires, or lamia, we come from one simple beginning, and that is as the birth of a human. How ever we have became our elegant and powerful selves does not matter, as we still had to make a bond with a kindred soul to become what we are. I don't consider Perry nor Lana lucky, but more myself for knowing such incredible people. They are people to me and not lamia or lycanthrope. Veronica reminds of the fact that we all were once humble folk like her.
“Thanks, Mindi. Becky says that you have gym together, uhh....”
Veronica was uneasy around me. I'm not sure how much Becky has told her. I tried to ease the tension,
“Yes. She is an amazing athlete. Aren't you excited for her now that she made the cheerleader squad?”
Veronica laughed cheerfully, much to my pleasure, and revealed something surprising,
“Yes. I was a cheerleader in high school. It's nice to know that your little sister looks up to you.”
“Indeed. Do you mind if we go to the mall today? There's not much to do there but I'm paying. Would you like to come along Ronnie?”
She waved us off, and declined my offer with class,
“No, no. I won’t spoil your girl time. Besides, I have to write a few letters. Our grandparents like to know that we are okay and they don't really have a phone.”
I smiled, and told Veronica,
“Okay. We’ll be back by six. I'll make sure she eats so please don't worry, about waiting up for her to eat.”
Becky got up, and I noticed she had on a short black leather skirt and a dark top. Her feet were clad in some hot punk-ish boots and her hair was done up and combed meticulously. If I didn't know any better, she was dressed up for a date, and I so happen to be the date. A girl like me is flattered, really, and some bi girls may have a partner of each gender, but I'm not that way. Heck, though, Becky sure does make it hard. I know I’m engaged, but it’s so hard for a teenager to keep her promise in the eyes of temptation.
“I’m so glad I'm out of there. I didn't think Veronica would ever let us go.”
I’m too curious.
“Why do you say that?”
Becky sighed, and admitted,
“Veronica knows I'm a lesbian, and she sees every girl I know as someone who wants to get in my pants. She can't help it, she's my guardian after all. I assure you it’s not that way, though, Mindi. I respect you and Perry way too much to make a play for you.”
That was nice to hear. To think, I thought it was the other way around. It makes me wonder, though. Did I want her to put the moves on me? Maybe I'm just too conceded, or maybe Becky is just way too smokin' hot. Either way, I'm relieved to know that we are going to have a fun and uninhibited afternoon at the mall. I'm so glad we can be honest with each other. It's like Becky and I really are dating. That is, without any of the benefits.
