Antecedent pt. 6

He heard something crash at the back of his mind.

And yes, it was his pride.

Tears just couldn't stop flowing from Juliene's eyes as she slowly walked—no, more like staggered—towards Brian. She covered her mouth with her hand, and when she went closer to him, she touched Brian's cheeks. Brian prayed that she wouldn't hear his loud heartbeat. Juliene cupped his face with her hands and looked at him lovingly.

'Ah...' Brian thought as he met Juliene's eyes.

"Sungjin..." Juliene almost whispered.

Brian wanted to remove her hands and tell her that he was not her lover—that he was another person and his name was Kang Younghyun, or Brian. However, a part of him wanted them to stay like that a little longer. The warmth of Juliene's hands made his mind go blank. He didn't know what to think of and what to do. But then, a voice came to his mind.

'Younghyun, you know what this means, don't you?'

Brian slowly held Juliene's hands.

'She sees you as Sungjin.'

He saw his own reflection on Juliene's teary eyes.

'Why don't you take this opportunity to be her lover, as Sungjin, just for a little while?'

He smiled, and tightened his grip on Juliene's hands.

"Juliene, I'm sorry, I'm not—"

Juliene didn't wait for him to continue for she pulled Brian's face to hers until their lips touched. Brian didn't expect her to do this, so when they kissed, his eyes were still wide open. He heard gasps from everyone in the room. Through his peripheral vision, he saw that Jae was about to protest, but the doctor stopped him and motioned him to stay put.

'Her lips are so soft.' Brian thought. 'So... so soft.' He slowly closed his eyes. '...and so, so sweet.'

Brian grabbed Juliene's waist and pulled her body to him. Juliene wrapped her arms around Brian's neck and the kiss deepened.

His conscience kept on bugging him, but he didn't care anymore. His rationality crumbled into pieces. Juliene was finally in his arms and here they were, kissing in front of many people. It was his dream for a very long time—to be kissed by someone he loved. And he simply didn't care.

He didn't want the kiss to end, but it seemed that Juliene was out of breath, so they slowly separated, panting. When he opened his eyes, Juliene was still crying. She sniffed and hugged him tight.

"I love you, Park Sungjin."

Brian was taken aback, but only for a moment. He slowly removed his arms from Juliene's waist. He was disappointed, but not surprised. After all, he knew that his happiness had always been short-lived.

His happiness had always been temporary.

And besides, what would he expect? Right from the very start, she already called him Sungjin.

'But you get to kiss her.' A voice said once again. 'You get to be with her.'

But still...

He still wanted her to love him as Kang Younghyun.

However, if he told her the truth, wouldn't she get hurt? That was his greatest fear—seeing Juliene in pain. Thus, he decided to follow with the flow.
