"So, you're really going over to a friends house?" "Yeah mom, she lives right around the corner. She's a new friend that I met a couple weeks ago and she invited me over to study with a couple other girls." "Okay..I just don't want you to lie to me and say that you're going over to a boys house." My eyes widened at that moment.
"Mom, I'm not. I promise! It's just a girls study night." I said, trying to make my voice not so shaky. Hopefully it worked because she didn't say anything else about the situation. "Jade, what's the subject you're working on anyways?" "Oh, it's just some math and history assignments. We both have those classes together." "We meaning who?" "The girl who invited me and..me." "Oh okay. Well, good luck on your assignments. I hope you get them done."
We pulled into the driveway and I got out. I grabbed my backpack and checked my phone. There was a message from Luke.
Luke 😁: hey, i just got home! Are you coming over soon?
I read the message but I didn't respond back. I walked into the house and walked straight up into my bedroom. I turned to look at my closet. Should I bring a bag full of clothes? Wait, what am I? Stupid! Of course I should. The real question, what should I bring?
Let's see, I packed a sweatpants, a sweatshirt, a tank top, my hair brush, my hair ties, my shoes, my socks, my books, my notebooks, my pencils and pens, and more. I think I got all I need. I don't think I'm gonna be staying the night, like how can I anyways? I'm just gonna "study" when I go over there.
"Jade? Are you almost ready? What time do you have to be at your friends house?" "Um..around this time. She lives really close so I could just walk over there." "Walk over there? Jade, it's almost dark. I'm worried that someone weird might approach you." "Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry, I got it all under control." I told her as I zipped up my bag.
I grabbed my phone and texted Luke.
Me: hey, I'm finally on my way. I'll be there in about 5 minutes!
He read my message and sent me a little smiley face. I wonder what we'll be doing over there. Eh, I don't want to think about it. I just want to be with the person that I...really love to have around. I don't know if I love him okay? It's...all my emotions are all over the place.
Like I JUST broke up with my boyfriend a few days ago...I'm still hung up on him. I walked out of my door and turned the light off. "I'm ready now mom! Don't worry, she literally lives in the apartment complexes next to us. I'll be fine." "Okay baby, I love you and be safe. Don't do anything risky and terrifying."
"Okay mom, I get it." I walked over to her and gave her a big hug. I had my charger with me so that if my phone dies and my mom tries to call me, I could just charge it back up so that won't be nervous. "I love you Jade. If anything were to happen to you, I wouldn't know what I would do." "I love you too mom. I promise, I'll be fine. I'll be back in a few hours."
