Captain America's P.O.V.
We had been given the alert that three mutants went missing about two weeks ago. Three days ago we caught a trail and had followed it to a section of warehouses on a small island off the shore of New York. S.H.I.E.L.D. had sent out a few agents as reconnaissance but when they received a weak S.O.S. signal coming from inside they called in the Avengers. Flying over to the island there looked to be only ruins of a section of warehouses. The plane landed and we unloaded. Banner stayed on the plane as backup and the rest of us split up to investigate the facility. Hawkeye and Black Widow went to find the main headquarters while Stark, Thor, and I searched for the source of the S.O.S. One of us must have tripped an alarm on the way in. Stark led the way, using J.A.R.V.I.S. to track the signal and the three of of easily took out any guards that we came across. We were almost to the signal when we heard shouting up ahead.
"FREEZE!" Followed by a young voice.
"If you say so."
Up ahead a few guards were slammed into a wall by a pillar of ice. I shared a look with Stark and Thor as three kids turned the corner and skidded to a stop in front of us.
Bobby's P.O.V.
In my opinion I thought that Pietro and I were doing pretty good at avoiding the guards. You know, until we ran into a whole cluster of them coming out of some form of a break room.
"What are you doing out of your cells?" One of them asked as they all began to pull their guns. I didn't even have a chance to react before Pietro had knocked out all of the guards, unloaded all of their guns, and was leaning against the wall at the next corner panting. I just stood there blinking.
"Come on!" He growled, "let's find Astrid and get out of here."
I nodded and jogged up to meet him as he began to walk quickly down the next hallway. I glanced at Pietro out of the corner of my eye. He didn't look too good. His breathing was still pretty heavy and fast, and he looked tired. After a few hallways of silence I decided to speak up again.
"... Are you okay...?"
His face morphed into a small sneer.
"Using my seed takes up a lot of calories. They haven't been giving me enough food to keep up with how much I've burned off today."
"Oh," was all that I said in response. We travelled through a few more hallways before stumbling across another holding cell. I froze the keypad controlling the door and broke it with a punch causing the door to slide open.
"@!*#" Pietro swore as we saw who was in the cell.
Astrid's P.O.V.
You know how when you're dreaming you sometimes hear and see things that are really weird? Like really weird? Like standing back at the Mansion we lived and trained in and watching the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Evil all hanging out together and messing around. Professor X, Storm, and Wolverine were having coffee with Magneto and Mystique, a lot of the kids were playing cards or talking on the couches, even the Avengers and Director Fury were there.
The main thing that stuck out to me was that Pietro was there. I mean, it makes sense since the rest of the Brotherhood were there, but he and Bobby were playing video games together. They both looked over at me and called me over,
"Astrid! Wake up!"
Wait, what?
"Astrid! Come on! Please wake up!" Someone was shaking me by my shoulders.
Groaning, I try to open my eyes to meet bright lights. The shaking stops and I blink a few times to adjust. When I can finally open them fully I find myself face to face with Pietro. Wow, I thought, his eyes are really grey. Pietro's cheeks redden and I hastily avert my eyes to see Bobby standing in the doorway. I take in the alarms flashing in the hall as he comes to kneel in front of me and mess with my anti - power cuffs. There's a small click and the cuffs fall away. Bobby meets my eyes and smiles before offering his hand to help pull me up. Taking it I try to figure out what shape my body is in. I still hurt, a lot, and I think that I just reopened some of the wounds on my back, but I didn't care.
"We should go," I rasp out, and the boys nod. I go to take a step and my legs buckle from beneath me. Bobby and Pietro lunge to catch me and help me back to standing. I try to straighten up, but Pietro just puts one of my arms around his shoulder and wraps one of his around my back so that he can help support me as we walk.
"You should lead since your in the best shape right now Ice-cube." His voice sounds pretty loud from where I'm sagging against his chest. I try not to think about how this is the first, kind, physical contact that I've had in awhile.
Bobby nods and heads out the door with Pietro and I close behind. As we walk my muscles begin to warm up and I start to walk without Pietro's support. I notice that he still keeps close though.
We make it a few corridors before a group of guards turns the corner in front of us.
"FREEZE," one of them shouts as they aim their weapons at us.
Bobby tenses and I can almost hear the smirk when he responds,
"If you say so." He thrusts his hands up in front of his body, shooting a pillar of ice from his hands to slam the guards into the wall behind them. As soon as the guards hit the wall we begin running. We turn the corner and skid to a stop to see Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor standing in front of us.
Iron Man recovers first.
"Is that an electric shock collar?"
Bobby and Pietro both whip their heads around to look back at me and I can feel Thor and the Captain all looking down at the collar around my neck. My face begins to heat up as I nod.
"Right, come here," He beckons and I walk the few steps to end up right in front of him. He presses a few fingers to the collar and something pulses before the collar unclasps and clatters to the ground. My hands immediately fly up to my neck to massage my neck and feel the damage of the burnt skin. It hurt but I knew that it would eventually heal. During our exchange Captain America had contacted the rest of the Avengers to let them know that they had found us. He motions for us to follow him and he leads us out of the building and towards the waiting jet. I can see Bobby and Pietro out of the corner of my eye as they take in the sky after being locked up for so long. My focus was on the jet. We load onto the jet and as the Avengers are making sure that everything is good for takeoff I can see S.H.I.E.L.D. agents securing the compound and arresting all of the scientists and guards. A hand falls on my shoulder and I flinch, spinning around to see Pietro.
"It's over," he smiles, "those men can never hurt you again."
I look over at Bobby who is slumping against the wall next to me, already half asleep. Turning to look out the window as the jet takes off I watch as the complex begins to fade away into the distance.
"Yeah," I agree. Locking eyes with Pietro I smile, and a sense to relief washes over me. I still have a lot to work out, a lot to come to terms with, but I have friends who have gone through this with me and who will support me. I grab Pietro's hand and squeeze lightly as we fly back home.
It's over.
Thank you all so much for putting up with my horrible updating schedule. I really appreciate all of your comments and support and thank you for all of your ideas. They really helped me when I was facing severe writers block. I hope that you enjoyed the story and thanks again for taking the time to read it!
