I woke to sobbing. Alexis's head was pressed against my collar bone as she cried to herself. She had yet to release my hand, but my other arm was too sore to wrap around her. Her free arm was wrapped around my center as if preventing me from slipping away.
"Alexis?" I called. "What happened? Are you alright?" I asked.
"It was just a bad dream. I'm alright." She answered, though her tears told me otherwise.
"What was it about?"
"My sister. It was like she was still alive." She whimpered. "She was talking to me about everything that had happened since I lost her, and how proud she was of me." She rubbed her head against my collar bone. "It's not fair, why did she have to die?"
Alexis...as a Shade, dead souls can communicate with you. There's a good chance that was really her. Emma called.
"No! I don't want her to stay restless!"
She isn't restless. When she isn't talking to you, she's where ever the souls go. Emma explained.
"Still." Alexis seemed lost in her own mind. She craved to have her sister back more than anything, but we didn't have her sister's soul, nor her body. How could we bring her back?
She's happy wherever she is. She probably wanted you to know that so you don't worry about her.
"I still miss her more than anything... and I'm immortal now, so I won't even see her again after death." She said.
"Do you regret immortality?" I asked her.
"No." She answered.
"You can still talk to her in your dreams then, so she's not completely gone." I explained.
"I know. But I can't hold her anymore." The arm around me tightened and I could tell she wished she was hugging her sister instead of me.
"That's what the dream is for. Our dreams are different than that of a human's. You can feel and smell them because the dreams are more realistic." I told her. "You can hold her." I explained.
She let out a small laugh of hope. "Thank you Myra." She told me.
"Just let me know if you need anything okay?" I asked.
"I will. Thank you." She said again.
I longed to hold her in my arms like this, to have her cry on me because she felt comfort here. But it just seemed like she wasn't all here, like she grabbed the closest person to her, not just me because she wanted me.
I wished I could wrap my other arm around her, but it was still too pained to do so.
"Myra... I'm sorry if me hugging you like this makes you uncomfortable." She called.
I wanted to yell "No! Of course it doesn't!" but I was able to catch myself before embarrassing myself.
"Don't worry about it. You needed a shoulder to cry on and I'm happy to be there for you." I told her.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"I mean it. Don't worry about it." I smiled. "I just wished my shitty arm would heal already so I could hug you back."
She laughed at that statement. "Thank you Myra. For everything."
"My pleasure." I thought about it for a moment. Was there anything I could do to make her feel better?
Emma, can you link me to mère? I asked her.
Yeah sure. Emma answered. In a moment I could hear Kira's thoughts. She was awake but Alison was still asleep. She was petting the back of Alison's head that was rested against her chest.
