Sarah slumped to the floor against the bookshelf and I was unable to move, and unable to talk. I couldn't believe the things I had just heard.

When I regained my senses, I stood up and walked around the bookshelf and up to Sarah who looked up at me with a glare. I offered my hand to help her up, and I was a little relieved when she took it and allowed me to help her stand.

"Myra Nightshade." I told her.

"Sarah Navarra." Sarah answered.

"I know. I was in the throne room." I told her. "Now I can understand if you don't want to talk about it, but I would really like to know what that's about, and I highly doubt Alice will tell me."

She glared at me. "You were listening in?" She asked.

"You were pretty loud. I didn't really have much of a choice." I told her. I didn't lie, but it also wasn't really the truth.

She walked past me and over to the table with the book on it that she was originally going to read. She ran her fingertips over the cover of the book then sighed and looked up at me.

"I've read a few books on it, but... I guess I'm still not familiar with it. I'm Alice's mate." Sarah told me.

"And that means she's supposed to fall in love with you?" I asked.

"She already has." Sarah answered. "Or... whatever it is that a insane person would feel towards their mate anyway."

"Something about you turning into a tree?" I asked.

"Do you know the story about Merlin?" She asked.

"I'm not familiar with it no." I confessed.

"Merlin was the most powerful Wizard in the world. However he was cursed to be sealed into an oak tree by his apprentice Vivienne. This curse was passed down into his children as well, just a little modified. It made it so all his descendents, depending on how much magic they used in their lives, would eventually turn into an oak tree of their own."

"I'm guessing you used a lot of magic then?"

"All of my family did. I used more of it than my parents though. My parents became trees around 30. I started turning into one for my 20th birthday." She answered. "Though of course that was a couple thousand years ago now."

"If only one of your parents was the descendent of Merlin then why did they both turn into trees?" I asked.

"Because they were married. Anyway, as I began to waste away Alice happened to stumble across me." she rubbed her arm as if remembering a wound. "She took one look at me and she knew I was her mate. She knelt before me, and said 'this is going to hurt.'"

"She made you immortal?" I asked.

"Yes. I woke up about a month later in my own bed. She was asleep in a chair beside me. She woke and waved at me with a smile on her face. I saw the Daybreaker symbol on her hand and lashed out. She was a monster as all Daybreakers are."

"Alice might have been a monster before, but she isn't anymore." I told her. "She cares for everyone in the castle."

"What she did can never be forgiven by any means." Sarah told me. "I will never trust her."

"And what if you're wrong? What if you do end up falling for her?" I asked.

"I won't." She growled. "Now if you'll excuse me." She sat down and opened her book and began reading. I sighed and took my leave.

Well she was nice. Emma said.

She's scared okay. Give her a break. Alexis sighed.
