Chapter 28

Alice pulled on her binds as she tried to sit up. "She's supposed to be dead! I killed her!"

"Sister? Xena?" I asked.

"Yes. Xena Daybreaker is here. A few hunters found her in the village, they captured her and brought her here." Bells explained.

"Myra you have to untie me. It's a trap. She's going to attack Rose!"

I found myself instantly undoing the straps on Alice and as she stood up she whistled and Lillian came flying through the door.

"Alice are you- Why are you up?" She asked.

"Xena is here. Come on." She ran out of her room, her fairy following, and I found myself chasing her out alongside Bells.

"Is Rose really in any danger?" I asked her.

"We don't know. Alice said she stabbed Xena through the skull. Vampires can't survive things like that." She explained. "We have no idea what her power is."

We followed Alice into the throne room as the hunters brought Xena up to Rose's throne. Rose was sitting in her throne with her elbow on the armrest as she held her head up by her hand. Her silver eyes burned with curiosity as she looked down at the little girl.

"Rose be-." Alice called, but her mouth clamped shut as Rose's eyes flared up.

"From such a distance..." Bells whimpered, obviously surprised by her Mistress's power.

"So..." Rose crossed her legs as she examined the little girl who's gaze met the floor. "What was she doing when you found her?"

"Walking around with blood on her face." Replied one hunter. "She obviously had just made a kill. The authorities are searching the town for a body my Lady."

"I see." She sighed. "You're just a pain aren't you? You didn't die the first time. Care to tell me how you survived?" Rose asked.

"I have nothing to say to you." Xena snarled. "Father said-"

"Agora isn't your father Xena. You may have his blood but that is because he gave it to you."

"How could you possibly know something like that!?" Xena growled as she glared up at the Goddess.

"You think I don't know my son's scent? The scent that you don't have. Lok smelled like him too. But he was abandoned the same as you, for being a coward. He abandoned the Daybreakers following Alice's warning. And you? You showed up at my castle, and for what?"

"Agora abandoned me." Xena answered as she lowered her head back to the floor. "I have no where to go."

"Alice's claws gave you a head injury yes?" Rose asked.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Xena asked.

"You no longer think like a Daybreaker anymore do you? You have that knowledge, but what he drilled into your tiny skull seems far away doesn't it?"

"How could you possibly know how I feel?" She snarled.

"I know how all my decedents feel."

"There is no way in hell I'm your child." She hissed.

"Well technically all vampires are." Rose smiled in a way that made her seem playful. "Of course you're not a direct descendent, but you are still a descendent none the less."

"Shut up. Don't treat me like your child." Xena turned her head away from her.

"But you are."

"If I was your child I wouldn't have been beaten and raped for the sake of your pleasure would I?!" Xena bellowed.
