"Hey Alice." I waved a bit.

"You ready?" She asked.

"Not a chance." I answered. "I really don't feel like breaking another arm."

"Don't worry!" Lillian smiled. "She won't break it. She might rip it off though."

"Not helping!" I whimpered.

"Hush Lillian." Alice said, though she was clearly smiling. "I'd never do that to you."

"Did my parents put you up to this?" I asked.

"Rose did." Alice answered. "I'm supposed to test you and your new Shade."

"Oh. Good." I sighed. "I'm so dead."

"Only a little." Lillian answered.

"Not helping!" I barked again, but the Fairy just shrugged.

Alexis vanished and I felt her connect to my thoughts. Alice hopped off the fence and faced me. "Be thankful you got to watch me fight before you actually had to." Alice taunted.

"Don't be like that! Its not as though I can remember how you fought!" I snarled.

I can. Alexis called, making me pause a bit.

I have an idea! Emma called.

"I'm so dead." I muttered.

"What was that?" Alice called.

"Nothing!" I answered.

"Let me know when you're ready."

Alexis, link with me. Emma answered.

I thought I already was?

No you have to in real time connect your thoughts with mine, so whatever you think I hear right away.

Like this?

Perfect! Myra, Alexis will be your eyes and ears. I will guide you and help you fight.

"Got it." I took my stance and Emma's purple magic sparked around my fists as I held them up in front of my face. "I'm ready for you Alice!"

"But in reality you aren't are you?" Alice asked.

"Shut up! I can take you!"

She's just trying to make you doubt yourself. All the bad guys do that. Emma said.

We can do this. Alexis said. I could practically see her smiling.

And don't forget, Alexis is a hunter. Her martial arts skills will be invaluable in combat. Emma said.

Emma was a tease. She loved to be a bother. But the second we were in a fight, she wasn't perverted, she wasn't silly, and she didn't taunt. She was exactly what you needed from a fighting companion. She was calm and level headed, even when staring down the maw of a dragon. I wondered if it was because she couldn't take danger seriously or if it was because she just wasn't afraid.

I'll do what I can to help. Alexis said.

At the same time, I felt both my shade's move under my skin. It wasn't really what they were doing, but it just felt like they both held my position, and could help guide me if I needed to move.

I won't resist her I promise. Just do what Alexis does, not me. Emma told me.

"Got it." I nodded to myself.

"They're done planning." Lillian smiled as she moved behind Alice's shoulder like she was holding onto her shirt.

After she finished talking, Alice lunged forward so fast she was invisible for a millisecond. Luckily for me, she was slower than Kira, so dodging her was easy.
