Part One: Entering Badlands
Chapter Four//The Disappearance of Zac Urnis: Two
Sherriff Randolph blows out a puff of the smoke as he thinks about what was just said to him. He shakes his head and throws the cigeratte to the ground. He steps onto it and turns toward the man, "you're telling me a kid has been missing for five days. Five days and you haven't had done anything to frikin do it. Come on I thought I trained you better son."
He pushes the guy away to the car and then the guy furrows his eyebrows, "but we have been out looking for him for three. Sir I don't-"
"There is going to be news reporters, the townspeoples, and weeping parents on my back about this. Don't you see?" the guy opens the drivers' side door.
"Where are you going?" the man asks and then follows his gaze.
"I'm going to find this Urnis kid and then firing you because you can't do a job right you worthless imbecile."
He gets in the drivers' side and then yells, "now are you coming or not!"
That makes the man jump and nod. He shakily opens the door. "Yes yes sir."
"I don't want to have a sob scene and have to tell there has been a murder in this small town you hear me youngster," the sheriff says and pulls the guy's shirt toward him.
The guy nods really fast and fixes his hat, "yes yes I understand we will find him alive sir."
"You better fucking hope so because if not your ass is grass and mine is already in the dirt," the sheriff says letting the shirt go and turning on the ignition.
"Nothing has been found," the guy says and the name tag reveals, Paperman. Lonnie is his first though. He looks out of the window because he knows the chief is staring right back at him.
"Nothing has been found, "the chief repeats and hits the steering wheel, "come on! Are you serious? Nothing."
Paperman shakes his head and theen looks at the chief. The chief puts the car from park to drive and speeds off from the small drive way of his.
They drive to the police station for the town and the chief barely puts the SUV in park before he gets out and starts walking.
"Chief I don't think this-"
The man puts his hand up and then silences him, "stop talking you're going to awake my nerves and-"
He goes into the door way and then opens it. He takes a deep breath and right away there are people in the doorway as if they were waiting for him.
He goes to the place where he is looking for though and straight to the CHILD PROTECTION OFFICE.
"I want a stat on this case right now!" the chief yells and then looks at the other sheriff.
The sheriff shakes his head, "listen Randolph this isn't your case."
"Then who has it? Because nothing has been found and not even flyers-"
The sheriff gets up and shuts the door. He closes the blinds and that makes Chief Randolph and Deputy Paperman look at each other.
"There's more to this case that meets the eye," the sheriff begins.
