Chapter Twelve// It's Not Worth The Hoot

To prepare for a battle is one thing but to deliver greatness during a battle is another. Victor, Harley, Justin, and Sean didn't know what weapons to use. They didn't know where to look and most importantly they didn't know what they were doing. It wasn't everyday you were looking for your missing best friend in the small woods looking out in the terrible terrain. It wasn't everyday that Harley put aside his differences for not yelling or screaming a single 'fuck!' every five seconds. Yet here they were.

All silent as they made their way down the road with their bikes. Like what was said they didn't know where to look. They just let their bikes lead the way and if the compass pointed north then the compass would point north. Though the sun was setting and mostly everyone knew the whole spill on the sun setting and rising from the east or west side. They knew if their compasses said they were pointed north then it was wrong.

But where was it they saw him last? Harley didn't know since he had to go home but Victor knew. Though it was dark after he saw that. Long afterward. So long that his mother was worried sick but he told her that his father knew he was safe.

But that wasn't the worry. The worry was...they just found his bike where the location was at. No sign of Zac. Where was he? Could he be in some sort of portal universe? Maybe but it was hard for four boys who have a wild imagination anyway try to not think of that.

An owl hoots as they stop and Justin jumps.

"Owl. Guys," he trails off and then moves away from the stump that was still around ten yards away from him.

Harley looks at Sean and Sean shrugs his shoulders yet says, "you know that is bullshit right?"

"No. My mother tells me owls are messengers," Justin puts his arms on his chest and tries to stay balance on the bike he continues. Harley and Sean listen but Victor looks around, "owls are messagers from the gods. They are suppose to bring news and the consequences of the news comes within three days of receiving the message."

"Are they good or bad messages?" Harley asks and get off his bike. He puts the kickstand out and then crosses his arms as well.

'They can be anything to be honest. Like one time my cousin saw an owl and three days later he got poisen oak up and down his legs and his penis-"

"Why his penis?" Sean asks and scrunches his nose up. Gosh he already feels sorry for the kid that had to go through that.

Justin shrugs and then smirks, "that would always be a mystery for me. But I guess he was in bed rest for five days and was urinating blood for like two weeks."

"And how does this give us any hope for the good news, "Harley asks but then another owl comes next to that one this one is staring right into Harley's. Harley instanstly gets back onto his bike.

"You guys," Victor says.

"What aboout two owls?" Harley asks and gulps.

Justin shrugs and they all look up into the sky at the same time. A flock of them. What seemed to be hundreds of these owls was only maybe twenty in reality.

"I don't know but let's get the hell out of here. I am sure it is bad," Victor says and then starts to pedal on his bike. Everyone follows him. The owls included.

They flock around the group. Victor stops and the bike screeches to a hault. They all gasp out of air. Their chests heave up and down. Now it seems like the amount of owls have double up.

'What the fuck," Harley mutters.

An owl goes to Victor. One foot maybe was between him and the animal and he smiles at it even though he was nervous.

You are to far from home at night aren't you Victor, the owl says to him.

Harley's eyes go big and then he gulps. It couldn't be. It couldn't be.

"Did you guys hear that?" Victor asks and then looks at all his other friends. They all huddle close to each other. In a circle or square however you look at it, the boys scream as they all hear the owl again.

Don't come back hear maggots it's to dangerous for you fellows to be here.

They start running. Without their bikes. They start running toward the west. Or was it east. They don't know and seldom they could care. They wanted to gt out of there and they sure as hell didn't want to get back on those bikes. The owls didn't follow them but they didn't know that.

"What the fuck was that!" Harley exclaims. He starts to sob as his legs begin to throb from running so hard on the pavement ground.

"I think the message was really clear Harley!" Justin yells back. His glasses almost fallining off as he cntinued onward.

"Shut it!' the other three holler at the same time. They run a straight line until they come to the next thing that they know is safe for them to be in.

The library. Victor's father wasn't there but Victor didn't and shouldn't care. They all sat down on the table as they catch their breathes. They didn't even stop running when they got inside the library. The sign right by the front desk read NO YELLING NO RUNNING AND REMEMBER THE CURFEW.

"Are you guys okay?" Victor asks out loud and then sits normally in the chair in front of him.

"No I think I need t change my pants," Justin answers. Sean scrunches his nose up. Some things you shouldn't ever say after that is asked. That being one of the things.

"We all couldn't have seen and heard that," Harley proclaims as he sits down too, "I mean how the hell do you explain this?"

"What was past there? Why did it say that? Dangerous? What for?" Sean asks the questions next. He runs his hands through his hair but it springs back p to the original spot it was in.

None of the boys could answer that. No one knew what was past that but they did know they wanted to. They want to go back there now and see what the hell that was all about. Would those owls still be there?

"I say we should wait a few minutes and gather our thoughts more before we head back there. After all we do have to get our bikes, right?"

Harley nods, "right. But bro there was something back there and I haven't seen ever before. I have never heard of an owl ever doing more than a hoot. Let alone saw one here and hear one. Like why stop? We are on a mission right?"

Harley gets up and then points out to the front door, "I am going back out there. It is late enough our mothers probably will be worried sick anyway. Let's stick together and find our friend before the dawn comes."

"Wow and he says I make to cliche words," Justin mutters. Sean escapes a laugh and then they both nod reluctantly.

"So where were we exactly?" Victor asks.

Harley grabs a pencil and paper and then puts it on the desk. They make a map where all Interior's sub roads are that they can think of. The roads that lead to other towns and beyond that.

"Where could they be? Where could all these creatures we speak of come from? I mean that couldn't have been a owl right?" Harley mutters and then sketches the last of it.

"Justin you know a place where they could have been. Don't owls come from underground or something like that," Victor says as he could swear he knows exactly what he is talking about.

"No, no. We are not going back there. I swore to myself that I would NOT go back there," Justin says and continues to shake his head, "we aren't going there no matter how much you convince me."
