PART ONE: ENTERING BADLANDS

Chapter Fifteen//Cadet Meets The Boy

It wasn't until half past eight when Susan Urnis unplugged the drain from the bathtub. Her headache is gone yet there is still that sore and achy feeling she has. The disappearance of her son is the sore on her head and until she finds him or she knows he is safe, that sore will remain.

The mirror on the wall of the room seperating her bathroom and bedroom is foggy and she places her hand on it. She swipes it and she can see herself. Her damp hair and the towel that is hugging her body to reveal a shadow as she starts to get ready for bed. She gets on her pajamas and brushes her teeth.

She goes to her medcine drawer and then grabs the bottle of Advil in one hand and her NyQuil in the other. She opens both and takes the most dose until she knows it isn't overdosing. She closes both and puts them in their rightful place. She grabs her wine glass and downs the last quarter of it.

She looks in the mirror one more time and she her eyes strike to something to fear.

There is a bloody handprint on her bedroom door in the reflection and she freezes. She turns around to see the handprint and what made it get there.

"Zac?" she questions and then goes to the door. She looks at the door and came to the relaization that maybe she should have more wine before she goes to bed.Especially since her mind is playing tricks on her and is making her see things that aren't there.

She opens the bedroom door and then goes to her bed. She pulls back the covers and then gets in.

You shouldn't be drinking when you have headaches his voice appears in her ears and that makes her jump up.

"Zac!?" she repeats but louder this time, "are you there my boy?'

No response and the house couldn't be more silent.

She sinks more back into her bed and folds the covers up and then down. She clearly can't get ahold of herself tonight because the reality of the whole situtaion is finally kicking in and blowing her head off of porportion.

"It's fine. I'll be fine. It's probably some kid outside going home and my head is playing tricks on me", she says out loud to herself.

She drifts off to sleep and starts to rest more as she does so. It had to be all in her head. There was no way in hell that what she saw was true.

Yet the handprint still remains where she saw it. The hand print starts to slip as it looks to be the blood is drying.

"So what you are telling me is that I am this universe so to speak?" the boy whispers to the man in question.

The man turns back to him and nods, "yes you are in their universe."

"Their universe?" the boy looks at him in confusion and then raises his eyebrows, "what does that mean?"

"Their universe," the man repeats and then gets closer to the boy, "did I stutter?"
