Part One: Entering Badlands
Chapter Eight/Pathner's Basement
On the day after Interior had flyers printed all over for Zac Urnis disappearance, the boys were gathered all around the stone cold table in the Pathner's basement. This was also a gathering place for the young lads. A place where they could just act like freaks and geeks all at the same time of eating whatever they want, doing whatever they want, and if they were quiet enough saying whatever they want.
Although Harley was sometimes to loud when Sean had beaten him at Mario. Harley was a sore loser when it came down to games. He wasn't bad but he wasn't good either. The only person he would beat was Zac. And truth be told Zac did it to just shut the boy up about hating the game. But the tables usually turned over and Harley would mock Zac. He would say things like:
"You suck Urnis! You're like a little sissy when it comes to this!"
and,
"Why don't you actually try?!"
That was the thing. Zac could beat Sean and the others but he would save the lost to Harley. He was the type of friend to do that. He was kind. He was a great friend. Was...
No one should think of that. Not even Justin in all his worriness and scared frenzy should think of such a negative thing.
That was what was on their minds though. They have hidden secrets from all their parents. Every parent of all four of the friends recieved a call from Susan Urnis- (and close enough that the divorce is final)Stoner. Each of them acted like finding out their friend is missing was the first time they heard. Justin almost had a guilt trip afterward and he fought the urge to tell his mother about what was happening. He knew if she found that he was keeping a big secret from her she would be really PO'd.
However to his dismay Justin bit his tongue and rejected a hug his mother was going to give him. He played it out that he didn't want to cry but deep down inside his guilt and worrying were yelling at his face. Screaming at him like a General would scream at his cadet.
It was no lie though that all of them were scared. Even Sean who rarely shows emotion when it comes to traumtic things. Neither of them knew how much longer they could go on and pretend they didn't know anything. Neither of them knew how to lie to their parents for a long period of time because they knew they wouldn't be able to see the light out of their room for week or maybe two. Maybe even months!
But amongst all of those things that neither of them could lie about was the fact they had the biggest clue to missing case of their best friend.
In the corner of Sean's family house there was a pile up of junk that was miscellaneous. No one even bothered to look in the corner for ages. So no one would look into the corner to solve a mystery that was possibly being already solved. Yet in that corner a big bike that looked something out of a 50's film was covered with a spider-man's blanket sheet that Sean's little brother outgrown to like.
That was the biggest secret of them all.
It wasn't any of their place to judge. Even Victor who had seen what he seen and knew that Zac's disppearence was also maybe a fatality. He actually almost was one hundred percent sure as to he knew his birth mark on his lower back was only growing because he was growing himself.
Their voices were small and hoarse this day though.
No one got caught of not being school. All the parents knew that they spend almost every awake moment together or trying to think of a way to be together again. They are in the same homeroom class. Most high school's don't have a homeroom but Interior did. The only times the class was divided were three hours out of the eight hour day. They were Fitness or P.E. to most, the electives like (computer science, the glee club, and drama or chior), then there was also the science classses on rankings. All five of the guys were top of the sophmore class so they never were apart except for fitness hours.
