Part One: Entering Badlands
Chapter Nine//The Mystery Gang
On Saturdays when the moon was up and the owls did their hoots a school dance was held in the gym. This was leading up to Halloween so every week you would see small amount build up to most people dressing up. Sure most high school's and their students would grow out of the idea of dressing up however Interior's students loved the idea around Halloween. It was the only time of the year where you could wear what you want and no one would look at you oddly or call you a whore.
A word that Zac Urnis mother described as a naughty word and no one should ever call anyone for that matter, not just girls, that naughty word. He is sixteen for crying out loud. He can say what he wants because he is coming to the age of exploring the vocabulary in other terms would call it, just not giving a shit about what you say.
Zac obeyed his mother's so called rules though and only say the words around his friends. Maybe it was his friends where he got the words from anyhow. They never said 'whore' in the same sentence as calling someone it but they did however say it with phrases like. 'Stop using a whoremouth and just roll the dice for fuck's sake."
This usually came from the mouth of Harley Goodyear. If he ever got beaten by anyone at any game he would call out, "you guys are bunch of whores!"
Even though his jokes were inappropriate the boys knew his humor so they rendered them worthless and not questioned it more.
At the dances known as parties though, you would hear way worse. Every ten feet there was a shout of defeat in musical chairs, pie walking, or where three older classmen would sit near the apple bobbing bucket picking on freshmen or sophomores. There was nothing worse than being the last person to have a pie and you had to be stuck with Mrs. Pickling's gross carrot and spinach desert only she called famous.
Though for the gang of Zac and his friends there was something worse. The three lads. They would try to avoid them at all costs but if they weren't at the bucket they would be walking around shoving anyone who hadn't had a costume or even dared to look at them.
As the number increases of costumes being worn so would the popularity of having great costumes too. The gang had a great costume idea. You sure bet your fur they did. They chose the last night to wear their costumes and now they all wish they didn't pick what they had worn.
They were known as the 'Mystery Gang' and there was no mystery that neither of them were girls or a dog for that matter. They had arguments and debates on who was going to play who. Four friends agreed Justin should be Velma because of him wearing glasses but he said he had the red hair to pull off for Daphne. No one questioned the boy on his motives for not arguing to be a girl for the night though. He was Velma though and he looked great as the part. He worn red shorts instead of the skirt the costume provided because it was definitely to short. His mother's orange sweater toped with shin high socks and shoes.
The rest of the group didn't get along to well for starters Harley could swear he should be Shaggy and Sean could be Scooby because it would be easy. (They were really close) Harley didn't say much afterward because Sean called it out that it was because he was the most similar to the complexion wasn't it? Harley and none of the others wanted to say anything so Sean just shrugged it off and got the costume on which he looked actually pretty hilarious in. Then there was three more spots. Harley wanted to be Shaggy but everyone else said Victor should be Shaggy since he had the locks to go along with it .Sure they weren't the same color but that didn't matter. Then there was no denying Zac was going to be Fred. The obvious lead to the group. Most of the time Fred would keep everyone in line and he was the driver. Zac was the same, he would handle everyone's shit and kept everyone sane. Plus he was the only one in the gang that could drive worth a crap.
