Feet stomps and screams had Mama and I rushing out of the room and into the common room. It's already 6:10pm, the sky was clouded and the weather looking rather pale in its new look. I didn't need to be told that it's going to rain tonight.
Mama, aunt Oby and uncle Kc had been chatting and laughing hysterically earlier this afternoon, with their discussion revolving round aunt Onyi. I'd joined them happily after cleaning aunt Oby's room and carrying out my mischiefs. Aunt Agnes came home a bit later and hopped into the conversation, fuelling it more by raising unreasonable allegations about their new sister in-law. Right then, I'd realised that being a one happy family would be their biggest nightmare- it wasn't ever going to happen!
"What's happening Oby? What is it?" Mama asked, fear rounding up her face. Aunt Agnes ran out as well, clutching tightly at her silky white transparent night gown.
Who wears night gown by past six?
"Oby what is it?" she asked worried.
I don't know why but my eyes darted to aunt Oby's boyfriend. He was wide eyed, staring at aunt Agnes rounded figure which was lightly visible from the silk cloth.
I shook my head in pity. Talk of someone whose baby Mama was in serious dilemma!
"Mama we need prayers here. Oh Jesus!" Aunt Oby was panting, the words not clearly forming on her lips. She was cradling her son who was sleeping peacefully on her arms.
I turned to her immediately, sudden shock taking total control of me. Did she see a ghost?
"Why so?" Mama asked. Aunt Agnes nodded in support, her eyes pleading for an explanation .
"Kc!" Aunt Oby blurted out. Her boyfriend startled, taking his eyes off aunt Agnes' body, batting them like a fool before turning to aunt Oby with a calm smile. "You see why I didn't want to travel to the village? I know your people aren't happy that we're together! Neither are they happy that I have a son for you!" She screamed moving closer to the wall and leaning on it.
"What's going on Kc?" Mama asked turning to him. Aunt Agnes was staring at him too. When he parted his lips to speak, he stuttered.
"I don't understand... But it's just ehm ehm.. "
"Mama they're after my son and I. We need to call brother Magnus!" Aunt Oby said, almost in tears. She was holding onto her son tightly, pressing him into her bosom.
"Can you tell me what's going on?" Mama screamed. "You're not making sense, Kc isn't making sense either!"
"Mama all over my room., every single place is filled with ants!" Aunt Oby blurted out.
"What?" Mama asked wide eyed.
"Ehn?" Aunt Agnes said, her eyes darting from uncle Kc to her sister.
"Nneogo! Nneogo!" Aunt Oby called panting.
"Aunty" I replied, trying so hard to suppress my laughter.
"You swept and mopped the room right?" I nodded, acting really scared.
"And you didn't see any ant?" Aunt Oby asked.
"There were no ants right?" Mama asked almost immediately."Not even one aunty. This is scary. Holy God!" I faked a scream, shaking my body in alignment to the intense feeling in the room. "I swept and mopped the whole place, even if there was any, I should have cleaned it out in the process, but I saw nothing".
"Mama they're after me, after my child! It's so irritating Mama! Every single place in the room!" Aunt Oby cried, sliding down the hall, crouching beneath it.
