"I'm sorry, but I don't think you've even heard the half of it." He sighed, with an apologetic gaze. My heart sank as I realised what he was talking about: gang business. I had been trying to forget about it, which proved to be impossible. The most I could do was make it seem like a dull problem, like an overdue assignment or something. I lowered myself in my seat and took a deep breath.
"Tell me then." I breathed, barely above a whisper. I couldn't trust myself to speak properly, not at a moment like this.
He shifted himself so that he was staring directly into my eyes, not allowing me to look away. Yet again, his beauty overwhelmed me and rendered me weak. He slowly raised his eyebrow at me. His eyes shifted to stare into each of my eyes, searching for something. When he was done, his eyes fluttered slightly before looking back at the road ahead.
"You're not ready." he replied with an unreadable expression on his face.
I frowned at him, but I knew he was right. I was in no way, shape or form ready for what he would tell me. If I started crying at what he said last night, I couldn't imagine how I'd react if he told me the whole story. I wasn't prepared to enter their world, because it was quite frankly different to mine. I knew that one day I'd have to find out about their shenanigans because I was involved, but maybe not now. Yeah, people might call me a baby and call me foolish to not wanting to know, but I still have my life to live, even if it might be cut short by a man who has a newborn vendetta against me. And it doesn't take a genius to know that my life will be changed after all this.
I stared through the windshield, watching the trees and cars whizz by. Matthew easily slid in and out of traffic and overtook other vehicles without even blinking.
"How did you know?" I asked without thinking. I clamped my mouth shut before any more foolish questions could escape my lips. With a heated face, I turned my head so that I was staring out of the passenger window and he couldn't see my face.
"I can see it in your eyes. It was written all over you, Leah. You are usually quite difficult to read, but this time it showed through," He answered smoothly. I let out a small gasp, amazed at how he read my emotions. "It's quite annoying actually," he started. My head swivelled to face him, a picture of confusion prominent on my face. "I can usually read people and understand what they are feeling easily, but with you... It's so hard." What next, is he going to tell me he's Edward Cullen and he's actually a vampire? I gently slapped my face, scolding myself for thinking so stupidly at such a serious moment. A smile cracked on his face as he continued.
"I guess reading you is a challenge for me, and I like challenges." Matthew half growled flirtatiously. My eyes widened at him and I felt my cheeks set on fire as I took in his playful tone. He turned to look at me again, as I let out a small giggle. The smile that played at his lips was genuine and it was just for me and the thought of that took my breath away. It was funny how easy it was to take away tension with these boys. I took my time to analyse his face, taking in his mussed, dark brown hair and his swirl of grey eyes, which now seemed brighter and less clouded. His skin was slightly tanned, with a rosy pink underlining his cheek bones. His lips were slightly pink and full, permanently puckering for a kiss. And I would quite gladly give him one.
I immediately turned away from him, before I did something stupid and I actually did kiss him. In the corner of my eye, I saw him smirk to himself, whilst still staring at me. How was he driving and watching me at the same time?
We settled into a comfortable silence while I occupied myself by looking at the side mirror. It was angled so it was showing behind Matt's car. I watched for a couple of minutes before my palms started to sweat. The tinted black car behind us has been making the exact same turnings that we have. I mean, it might just be a slight co-incidence... Some people tend to make the same turnings as others, but they don't exactly mirror your movements, do they?
Maybe I'm just over-thinking things. After all, everybody is entitled to go to the same places as others.
That's what I thought until I saw Matthews hands turn white as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
"I guess I'm not the only one who has seen that car mirroring your exact moments for the past few minutes then." I whispered to him.
"Damn straight."
