CHAPTER 21: RESULTS
Usagi's POV
"Well it's fortunate that we had an early detection. It appears that he is suffering from acute Pericarditis…"
"Is that bad? Is it curable? Is he going to be fine?" I knew that I must look ridiculous freaking out like that but I couldn't help it… I was never able to control myself when it comes to Misaki
"It is an inflammation of the pericardium which is the sac that surrounds the heart. The pericardium protects the heart and helps it function properly."
His heart…? Oh god … the hand that held Misaki's tightens as I listened intently to what the doctor said "The cause is a bacterial infection and is curable with antibiotics…" I let go a breath that I didn't notice I was holding… I was relived… he was going to be alright…
"…but I must tell you that if for some reason he doesn't respond to the drugs a more intrusive procedure will be required to drain the fluid that cause the heart to work harder with each beat…" a scowl appeared on my face, at that moment I was praying with all my heart that it wouldn't come to that… I turned back to Misaki and stared at him, he look so peaceful…
"When will he wake up?" I brushed some stray hair that had fallen over his eyes to the side, it was something that I had been doing repeatedly the whole time I have been with him in this gloomy white room
"It would probably take a few hours. It is the effect of the painkillers that we gave him earlier. There is no need to worry Usami-san; he is going to be alright"
My eyes were still glued to Misaki's face my fingers running over his brow again when I said "I can't stop worrying. Not until he opens his eyes and talks to me…"
Nowaki had moved to the Machines that were on the left of Misaki's bed, the other side from where I was sitting and started checking them and writing some things down on the pad he held in his hand. "You should probably rest. It might take a while for him to wake up"
Before he left the room I asked "What time is it?"
"Around 3:30" he opened the door and was about to step out when I said
"Kusama-san, Thank you for everything"
"There is no need for that Usami-san. I am happy to help when I can" he smiled at me and then I added
"You are truly a good man. Hiroki is luck to have found you…"
"Thank you for your kind words but I think it is me who is lucky" I gave him a weak smile and he returned it with a small bow before he left the room.
I stared at Misaki for the longest time until I finally gave up on him waking up soon and sleep started to pull me to it so I lied my head on the arm that held Misaki's hand and looked at his sleeping form for a while longer until slumber finally claimed my consciousness and I was pulled into a dreamless sleep.
I was woken up by the sound of the door opening and Nowaki entering the room looking really exhausted. It was already dawn, with the sun almost up the room was lit by the faint light coming from behind the white curtains that covered the windows.
"Sorry if I woke you…" he said with an apologetic smile
"It's alright…" my voice still held a sleepy tone to it; I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and stretched my back before I asked "you're still here…"
"I couldn't leave before I made sure that Misaki-kun was alright…" he handed me a paper cup that smelled of coffee, I nodded a thank you then he said "he should be waking up soon"
