Chapter 6

Coronation Day

Elsa walked down the isle.

Conceal, Don’t feel.

She noticed the familiar faces in the crowd, nobles and other royals that had been friends with her parents previous to their deaths.

Don’t let it show.

She repeated her father’s words in her head. She just wished they wouldn’t cause so much emotion; she kept seeing her father mouth these words. She only wished he had lived to be there with her now.

Conceal, Don’t feel.

Elsa got to the stage, where the priest stood, giving her a comforting smile. He said some things, though she didn’t understand them. They sounded foreign to her. She didn’t even feel like she was there. It was just her and the scepter.

Don’t let it show.

She began to grab the two traditional objects that her dad had held at his coronation also. She looked up to the priest who was shaking his head. The gloves. Hands shaking, she took them off.

I will fail. I will fail. They will know.

She grabbed the objects and spun around in a trance. The crowd stared at her with wide eyes.

“Look!” One of the ladies in the front row proclaimed. “They’re iced over!”

“Yes, they are! What is this witchcraft?” An older man said.

Elsa shook her head. Their words sent tremors through her body.

“No, no. Its not witchcraft, it’s fine-“ She tried to reason with them.

A few others screamed as a small flurry began in the room.

“She’ll kill us!” Another screamed.

“No, no! Don’t go! No!”

Elsa tried to control the panic. She watched as the crowd starred at her with disapproval and fear. She mirrored their looks. Terror consumed her. Her fears had come true. She really was a monster.

“No!!”

Elsa screamed and the crowd went silent. They all froze to their seats. Literally. The whole room was covered In frost, and every person turned to ice. Elsa rushed over to them, stroking faces with concern.

“What have I done.. No…”

She collapsed on the floor from the horrific sight. And that’s when she woke up.

It was Coronation Day. Nightmares had controlled her sleep for the past few days. And now it was time for the real thing. Elsa was going to have to face her fear. Whatever happened today would change her life forever. Either she would be brought into the open, and be exiled from isolation, or be in deeper darkness than even before. Today would be the day that would decide her fate as Queen.

Doing her hair and putting on her dress that morning helped calm her nerves. She carefully slid on her dress after having help putting on her corset by her servant. Her hands neatly tied a purple cape around her neck; she admired the colors she had chosen for this day. Purple, for royalty. Black, for the darkness she held on her shoulders each day. And blue for the blizzard she kept hidden away inside. She had even planned her hair accordingly; it was a style her mother had always worn. For some strange reason planning for this day had kept the fear away; it distracted her from this day. But now it was here, and could not be avoided.

Elsa tried to swipe away the ice forming in her hair. She was very nervous, and her hands were shaking as she tried to braid her hair for the bun. Emotions swirled inside of her. If only this day would just end, no matter what it held for her.

She had tried earlier to practice once again holding her objects for the ceremony. She held her breath as ice quickly formed around them. Her frustration froze them solid. She threw them on the ground in frustration, ready to cry, but she knew she couldn’t. She just had to go through with it.

A figure of poise and matureness, it was the girl she had to be. Controled emotions, proper attitude, and graceful appearance. She would not let her parents down. She would be the good girl she had to be. And though it was all breaking apart inside, that she knew she couldn’t do the perfect daughter act, she knew she had to try. She’d been given another chance. So she opened her doors, revealing a nicely decorated hallway armed with servants and workers. She took a deep breath. She was about to give herself away.

“Open up the gates!”
