Chapter 7
Queen of Arendelle
Ding Dong, Ding Dong, Ding Dong, Ding Dong
The clock struck. Each swing from the bell made her a little more startled. Every toll announced it came closer to her coronation; closer to her time to freeze her reign or bring warmth to the kingdom once again. Elsa watched with slight amusement as she saw Anna rush to the ceremony. It had been too long since they had spoken. A longingness grew in her heart. She wondered if there could ever be a friendship between the two again. Anna must think her a monster, even without memory of her hurting her. Elsa gently reached out to the white streak of hair in Anna's bangs as she rushed inside. She was too hurried to notice.
Elsa stood in a proper way, showing herself as calm and mature. Poised, graceful, and pleasant. She could show it all on the outside. But she knew the truth; every second caused something more to break down inside her. Nightmares flashed into her memories in bursts.
I am a monster.
She would use all her will to stop this. Maybe some force wanted her to try. Someone mysterious out there, maybe a godly figure wanted her alive. Someone must be watching her, because otherwise why would she have been given another chance? Why would a monster like her be saved if she had no purpose? It was the only hope Elsa had left.
On cue she walked down the aisle toward Anna. The crowd surrounded her, and she could feel their respectful stares. Elsa felt drowned in them, like some invisible pressure was being put on her. Some pressure to be the perfect queen, and daughter. To live up to her parents, and her kingdom, in this very moment. It all depended on this. She could either control it, or become the monster that consistently tore at her being. She had a choice, but for some reason it didn't quite feel like it.
In a way, focusing on Anna at the end of the carpet helped her. She wanted her sister back, and maybe being in control could mend that relationship. Maybe Anna could forgive her. Maybe they could really be sisters again.
As Elsa got to the priest, he began to perform the ceremony. She looked toward the crowd with cool sky-blue eyes, a relaxed smile on her face, and a stature of sophistication and grace. Elsa tried to forget her nightmares, her fear, and her grotesque qualities. It was emotional, and it could set her off. She left her mind blank, except for a continuous chant.
Conceal, Don't feel. Conceal, Don't feel. Conceal, Don't feel.
She bowed her head for her crown to be put on. But she wasn't queen yet. The priest went silent, and Elsa turned to the ceremonial scepter and ball. They were positioned neatly on a velvety green pillow. They were placed so perfect she almost didn't want to mess them up. Picking them up could possibly make everything mess up. She didn't have much of a choice though. There was no turning back. She reached for them slowly, letting every second drag on.
"Your Highness, the gloves"
Elsa's face filled with dread. She nodded slowly. She felt like the eye of a storm; calm, soft, but on the edge of the twisting winds and force of emotions that swirled around her. She just had to stay on the calm side for a little while longer. Just a little longer. She took off her gloves, hands shaking. She reached for the objects, the tremors in her hands increasing.
"Calm Down. It's ok, I'm here."
The voice came from nowhere, but it was just what she needed. Someone to say they were there for her. Someone to help her escape the isolation. A hand to bring her from the cliff. Elsa thought it might just be a voice in her head, or a memory of her father. Being trapped in a room for so long had probably altered her mental state. Her mind was past it's sanity. But the little shred of hope gave her the will to stay calm. She quickly picked up the objects, and turned on her heels to the crowd. Every second felt like an hour. Hopefully her control could last longer. The priest spoke in slow motion. The world almost stopped as the storm crashed inside Elsa. She noticed frost spreading across from her fingertips.
"Queen Elsa, of Arendelle"
She threw the scepter down like it was made of fire. Keeping her calm aurora, she gave the crowd a little smile.
I actually did it!!
She had made it through the coronation. Elsa was now Queen of Arendelle.

It was now time for the party. Surely this would be the easy part of the night. Getting to be with people, even though some were not quite as enjoyable, was a privilege she would never revoke. And the best part; she would get to talk with her sister. They havn't talked for so long. Elsa wondered if she still knew what her sister was like. But tonight would be the night that would change that. She would see how Anna really felt; if Anna could forgive her or not. Being the only family Elsa had left, she hoped Anna still had the heart of gold she had when she was little.
Elsa felt like she had the most control she'd ever attained. She could control her life for once. She could control herself. Maybe her story did have a happy ending.
Elsa turned to her sister, who stood awkwardly beside her.
"Hi Anna."
