~Chapter 10~

Running Away

Elsa was mezmerized by Anna's eyes. She could feel them shape into a frown, just looking at them. The whole room seemed like nothingness; it was just the two sisters. There were no more dancers or unfamiliar faces; only Anna and that expression of betrayal. Her eyes seemed so distraught... The normal sky blue had turned stormy and blue-gray. Elsa was terrified, looking into that storm. She knew what it was and what had caused it; Anna now knew the truth. 'My sister is a monster.' Elsa imagined her sister thinking.

Well, now they could see her for what she really was. Years of hiding in isolation, all for nothing. Well it did lead to a dramatic scene, a fight between sisters, and icicles almost stabbing her subjects and last family member. But at least she hadn't hurt Anna, physically. But who was she kidding; keeping Anna from being hurt by her powers had hurt her emotionally more than any physical pain could. This pain would never heal like a scratch or stab of a ice shard; Elsa would never be forgiven.

Though Elsa's mind swirled like a blizzard, and panic consumed her, she knew what she had to do. She had to run away. It was the last resort, the last attempt to protect her sister and kingdom from herself. Elsa gave her sister only a second more, and pushed through the ballroom doors. She was met with murmurs of praise and stares of confusion. They were oblivious to the events which happened inside; they thought their queen was coming to greet them and kiss their young children. Elsa was too hurried to notice faces; she rushed down some stairs and out into the middle of the party. Many tried to consul her but to Elsa they all seemed to be against her. These people were now her enemies, she couldn't be their queen any longer.

Elsa just had to keep running. She was surrounded. She was terrified to touch anyone, afraid they would freeze. Just seconds ago she had been inches from killing her sister. Elsa was quite aware how much of a danger she was. So she backed up, away from the people, until her naked hand touched a warm fountain. In horror she looked up as the water froze and turned into a pointed ice sculpture. She heard the doors she had came through slam. She was met by angry faces of a few nobles, the Duke they had seen earlier among them. Elsa just wanted to run away; why must they follow?
"Stop her!!"
She heard the Duke yell. She trembled at the hatred held in his voice. She was being hunted down like an animal.
"Please stay away from me, just stay away."
Elsa was trying desprately to calm down, so she wouldn't hurt anyone. She suddenly felt so helpless; she couldn't control the people around her, or even herself. She was out of control and there was nothing she could do. She was surrounded. Suddenly a wave of emotion overwhelmed her, and ice flew from the hand she was trying to calm the men down with. The nobles were pushed back, and slipped on ice she had suddenly formed at their feet. Elsa shed a tear at the sight she had caused.
"Monster!!!" The Duke cried, and pointed at her. And he was right. She was a monster.

Babies cried around her, and people cowered. Atleast now they were easier to get around. She turned around, and began to run.
"Elsa!!"
It was undoubtly Anna's voice, but Elsa couldn't bear to look back and see her face. She ran through the crowd, half blinded by tears.
Get away, get away.
Elsa stumbled through a door to the castle wall and exited through a doorway to the beach. All was silent only for a second as she peered out into the glimmering ocean and far shore, a shore that she wished she could reach, but seemed so far away. Elsa backed into the water's edge, hearing footsteps coming in pursuit. She watched the shadows first, then their owners come through the doorway. She felt trapped, and even began to back up into the water. Thats when she realized something; she wasn't stepping into water. She was on a frigid surface; the water had froze to ice. Turning back only for a second she saw Anna and Hans racing out onto the beach. Elsa tested the ice for a brief moment to see if it was hard enough, and then began to run. She didn't even look back into her sisters desperate eyes.
