"5, 4, 3, 2, 1," Everyone says as the ball drops on the television. Everyone turns a direction, whether to a significant other or a family member. Lauren automatically turns to Camila to get her New Years kiss, but her girlfriend's eyes are fully focused on the television. Camila watches as the many people on the screen shout and celebrate a new year.
"Hey Camz," Lauren says, trying to get her attention. She fails miserably though, only getting a hum out of Camila who's eyes are still trained on the tv.
"It's New Years." Another hum is the girl's response to her words.
"I think I was promised a New Years kiss," Lauren suggest, her girlfriend finally turns towards her. Camila quickly gives her a kiss on the cheek before watching the television once again.
"Camila, I meant a real kiss," Lauren chuckles at Camila. Camila ignores Lauren as she still looks at the television. Lauren sighs before turning her girlfriend towards her, Camila's brown eyes now meet Lauren's green ones.
"I'm gonna kiss you now," Lauren barely whispers before leaning and getting the kiss that she's been waiting for. Best New Years kiss Lauren has ever had. Their lips mold together as they always do, a rhythm is added before Lauren begins to smile into the kiss.
"I love when you do that," Camila says quietly, pulling away slightly. Their foreheads still pressed together so that Lauren could hear her perfectly fine.
"Do what," Lauren ask equally as quiet, a small smile spreading onto her face also.
"When you smile while we're kissing. I mean yeah it breaks the kiss, but I love it," Camila mumbles, finally having to look away from the green eyes and she begins to play with Lauren's fingers, looking down at them as she does so.
"I love you." are the only words that Lauren can think of to say in this moment.
"I love you, Camila," Lauren repeats, knowing that her girlfriend didn't hear her the first time that she had said it. Camila gives her a kiss on the cheek in acknowledgment and in a way saying 'I love you too.'
Lauren has begun to realize that there are more ways than saying the three words for her to know that that is what Camila means. Camila has many ways of telling her without saying it, even when Lauren does say it to her. Camila will kiss her on the cheek or squeeze her hand in acknowledgment of the words and it feels like for Lauren that she's saying it back. It doesn't really bother Lauren that Camila doesn't say it because Camila doesn't need to. Lauren can feel her love.
"Happy New Years," Dinah slurs as she stumbles over to the two with Normani trailing behind her and a drunk Ally in her arms.
"Can I get some help," Normani grunts out, not being able to deal with Ally much longer.
"Yeah, I got you," Lauren agrees before grabbing Ally's arm from around Normani's shoulder and wrapping it around her own.
"Hey, Lolo. Oh wait I'm not supposed to call you that," Ally slurs halfway yelling into Lauren's ear. Lauren smiles gently knowing that she's Camila's Lolo and she gets mad anytime anyone else calls her that.
"No" Camila says, obviously hearing what Ally had said. Lauren squeezes Camila's fingers that are still playing with her own.
"Tonight was so much fun, I really needed it," Normani says gratefully to her two sober friends. They both nod in agreement to her words, everyone needing a break from school and reality. Lauren needing a break from softball practices too.
"When's your next game," Normani ask, knowing exactly what Lauren was thinking somehow.
"Tomorrow," Lauren groans. Don't get her wrong, she loves softball, but the season is almost over and Lauren just wants to enjoy the rest of her senior year.
"Well these two are going to have fun, hungover and in the cold tomorrow," Normani chuckles, happy that she hadn't drank much tonight. A small glass of wine wasn't going to do anything to her.
"Just surprised Dinah's parents haven't said anything to her yet," Lauren realizes, knowing that Ally doesn't have anyone here to really watch her like Dinah does.
"Eh, they're both too drunk to realize it too. No little kids for the night and they're having the times of their lives," Normani lets Lauren know. Lauren nods her head in acknowledgment before realizing that it was now one in the morning.
"I'm glad everyone was okay with no music," Camila says, randomly entering the conversation. Both girls turn their heads to her and Lauren notices from her body language that she's getting tired.
"You tired, Camz," Lauren and, already knowing the answer. Her girlfriend confirms her suspicions as she nods her head.
"Go sit down while I put Ally to bed and then we'll go to sleep okay," Lauren says to her girlfriend before turning to Normani.
"You got her under control," Lauren ask and once she's told 'yes' Lauren drags a drunk Ally up the stairs of Camila's house.
"Why did Shawn and Austin not come tonight, Mila wouldn't tell me," Ally ask, slurring her words slightly.
"It's a long story, Als," Lauren sighs, knowing how disappointed Shawn was when Camila told him what had happened with Taylor. He decided not to come tonight since Taylor was going to be here. Camila was sad about it, but quickly forgot about it as she was surrounded by her other friends.
Lauren changes Ally's clothes into pajamas and settles her down into bed. Once she gets her to lay down, she begins to walk out the door.
"Marry her please," Lauren hears Ally mumble as she closes the door.
"I will," Lauren whispers to herself. She walks down the stairs to where her girlfriend is sitting and they walk back up the stairs for the second time for Lauren tonight. They change clothes and get in bed next to each other.
"Goodnight, Lauren," Camila whispers as she caresses Lauren's face gently.
"Goodnight, Camila. I love you," Lauren says softly.
And Camila kisses her cheek.
