Chp. 9- Take Me Far Far Away
"He what!" Scott yelled in anger while jumping up from the bed.
I just sat there and looked at him.
"That is it! She has lost it Scott, there are patrols everywhere in the area," Jesse said while opening the door of the room and coming inside. I just sat. blinked. And felt a bit insulted at the fact that he was implying that I was lying
"Were you eavesdropping?" Juliette asked him while planting her hands on her hips.
Jesse blushed. "N-no," he stuttered while looking everywhere around the room except us.
After everyone glared at Jesse their eyes were drawn back to me.
"Annabella, are what you saying true?" Scott asked me gently, but in his eyes I saw a pleading look for me to admit that I was lying. That was a burden that wasn't his to carry, so I just shook my head.
"It could've been a dream," I said cautiously. "I do recall now that I fell asleep by the lake, but I can't quite remember waking up."
Scott's face showed relief and with a final squeeze on my shoulder he walked out of the room. Jesse followed a few seconds after and Jennifer claimed that she had to meet up with Dimitri.
"Well, it looks like I'm the only one who doesn't believe that bull crap lie of yours," Juliette admitted as she lifted her right eyebrow.
She sat there looking at me expectantly.
"Well..." she dragged out. "Planning on telling me the truth now?"
"I... don't know what you're talking about," I said, but it sounded more like a question.
"Please, my lying radar was beeping more than a smoke detector while I cook," Juliette said while jumping on her bed.
I didn't know how to interpret what she just said, so I looked outside the window at the forest.
"No," I whispered. "I'm not ready yet," but those words were meant for someone else, on the other side of the wall, so far away we were almost side by side.
"Alright," Juliette said understandingly. "Goodnight Annabella," She clapped her hands twice. I expected pigeons or doves to fly out the closet, but nothing happened.. Juliette frowned and clapped twice again, she looked at me from the corner of her eye.
"What?" I asked.
"The lights," she ordered with a jerk of her head toward the lightswitch across the room. "Turn it off."
"Ok, although I really don't know why you're clapping your hands," I said while getting of the bed and walking across the room.
"I saw on TV once this thing that made the lights turn off automatically when you clap your hands twice. My dad wouldn't let me buy one, and you're here, so we can pretend that I bought one," she explained.
"But then I'm going to have to stand up every night and turn the lights off," I reasoned.
Juliette nodded her head vigorously, "Oh, I know."
I turned the light off and laughed. In that moment I forgot that I wasn't a normal girl with normal problems. Almost, but not quite.
I couldn't sleep all night, I kept looking at the ceiling and rolling over in bed. That's the reason why I almost fell into my cereal bowl this morning in breakfast. I was so tired I could just fall asleep in the comfortable ta-
"Annabella!" Jasper yelled.
I jerked my head up and my eyes flew open, "What?!?!?"
"You fell asleep," Jasper said while looking at me with concern.
