Chp.21- Starry Night

I thought about that for a moment. So, what they're saying is that they objectified me and I am now the price someone has to sacrifice? Now that's just wrong in every way, but I understand why they did this.

I look around at the expectant faces of everyone that are looking and me and nood. "Okay."

Juliette's mouth falls open in bewilderment. "Arent you mad? Angry? Furious?" she asks in a way that makes me think she's the one that's clearly angered by the news.

"Of course I am," I defend myself. I might be cool with the decision but I'm not a complete idiot. "I'm angry that they made me into some prize. But, I understand why they did it- why Scott did it. But, I'm not going to yell and scream, because that won't change anything. Anyways, I would be more angry if I didn't think we could win this, but I believe in this pack and it's alpha."

The silence hung in the air. I waited for someone to speak, but they seemed either surprised or moved by my monologue. Either way it wasn't a surprise when Juliette decided to break the ice.

"Well, that was a great speech, but you're crazy to be okay with this!" Juliette stated angrily and got out of her seat and stomped out of the cafeteria. Zeke trailed behind her, to comfort her was my guess. I didn't mean to upset anyone, although it's a decision that had to be made. If it wasn't possible then Scott would've never agreed.

I snatched an apple from the fruit basket at the center of the table. I must have been really distracted if I hadn't noticed food before, especially if it was right in front of me. I took a bite of my apple and looked at Scott. He looked at me and nodded once, I shrugged and smile. He said thank you in his weird way and I said it was no problem in mine.

"Where's Abby?" I asked curiously. I looked around the cafeteria to see if she was anywhere around here. Maybe she felt uncomfortable sitting with us, but she wasn't sitting with anyone else.

"She's unpacking, she said she'd meet us here. I feel like it's taking her longer than it should," Nathan whispered the last part as if he was deep in thought.

"Maybe she's OCD, and we all know how those type of people can get," I suggested jokingly as I twirled my finger around my ear. I knew Abby wasn't OCD, but I just wanted to stop making Nate nervous, because when someone else got nervous, I got nervous. And I hate feeling nervous. I swear feelings have a chain reaction on me.

Nate looked at me worried and I saw in his actions that he was about to bolt out of his seat.

"If it make you feel better, I'll go look for her," I suggested and got off my seat not waiting for a reply.

"No," Nate said and grabbed my arm. "I'll go."

I lifted an eyebrow at him. Was her serious? "Are you serious? You can't just walk inside a girl's room. She could be changing."

"She's my mate," Nate said sounding protective and offended at the same time.

"Mate, sister, friend, girlfriend, doesn't matter. Anyways, you look nervous and you're going to make her nervous," I reasoned and surprisingly he nodded.

When I stepped outside I tried finding Abby's pineapple scent, when I picked it up I followed it. Turning here and there, walking through doors, bumping into people, until finally I stopped below the staircase that I had climbed down hours before.

Confused and unsure I climbed up the ladder carefully. The door above me wouldn't budge as I tried pushing it with my right hand. Slowly I climbed up one more step and with both of my hands pushed the door above me. The door flung open, revealing a starry sky through the hole in the roof of the abandoned house. I almost fell back and quickly clutched the railing with my left hand.
